It is generally described as a tall, bony humanoid creature with disproportionately long limbs and a head of a horse. Tikbalangs are said to scare travelers and lead them astray. Tikbalangs play tricks on travelers such that they keep on returning to an arbitrary path no matter how far he goes or where he turns. Supposedly this is counteracted by wearing one's shirt inside out. Another countermeasure is to ask permission out loud to pass by or, not to produce too much noise while in the woods in order not to offend or disturb the tikbalang. One Superstitions especially popular with the Tagalog of Rizal Province is that Tikbalangs are benevolent creature guardians of elemental kingdoms. They are usually found at the foot of large trees bystanding looking around for anyone who dare to bestow malignancy on their kingdom's territory. According to traditional folklore, the tikbalang can also transform itself into human form or turn invisible to humans. They like to lead travelers astray. Tikbalang are generally associated with dark, sparsely populated, foliage-overgrown areas, with legends variously identifying their abode as being beneath bridges, in Bamboo or Banana groves, and atop Kalumpang or Balete trees. Mangkukulam uses “black magic” to do harm to others. He/she starts the ritual with a spell, incantations or prayer. With the use of manyika (doll or in other call are antiqrwa)this doll is said to be powerful and this is use in ancient filipino, afrikan and carraibian and needles by pricking the dolls body causes the victim to feel immense pain in the part of the body which has been pricked. To kill a victim, the mangkukulam pricks the doll in the heart or on certain vital organs. In order for a kulam to be effective, one must obtain a certain personal body part or belonging of the person you want to cause pain to (e.g. hair). Usually, one can get the service of a mangkukulam by bribing. Superstitious folks still attribute certain illnesses or diseases to kulam. This most often happens in the provinces, where an herbal doctor, albularyo (/al-boo-lar-yoh/), treats them. In some rural areas, people completely rely on the albularyo to reverse the witches' spell. Thu, 02 Jun 2011 15:16:24 -0400
