wow, that video sucks. very poorly edited.
sounds great though about the expansion.
yeah the trailer isn't that great. Wait for the official high quality CG-movie like trailer.
Aug 3rd, 2007the new hero class and the spells inscription sounds much wilder than anything i've heard before. and i'm not so sure about them as how it will balance the rest of the game...
anyways, wow has been around for 4 years i think and only this year, they released BC -- why are they starting to release a new expansion every year? players will have to pay again for a new expansion. plus, you have to unlock the new class?
BC was great and sounded great, and it was new after many years. flying mount and outlands/new races was really cool. with this, i just feel there's too much, in addition to the not-so-exciting trailer, features, and world. smells money?
Well, I just got finished watching the developers panel on the blizzcon live stream. From the look of things, Death Knight (and all future hero classes) will be unique enough to be worth playing, yet balanced enough so they wont completely replace or dominate over other similar regular classes.
As for inscribing, I don't think it will be bad. Everyone had the same worries with jewelcrafting and it turned out fine. We'll se when it comes out.
Unlocking the new class is one reason it is a hero class. if you could just choose it and go from the start, it wouldn't feel very "epic". and that is what they are going for. As for releasing a new expansion every year, they planned this (and let everyone know) before TBC was even released. It can actually be a very good thing.
Look at Guild Wars, seems like expansions are always coming out.
A lot of people have already done pretty much everything TBC has to offer. Once you get your epic flying mount and start raiding Kara and beyond, there really isn't much else for you to do but boring reputation grinds. The fact that we can go to Northrend is what makes me want the expansion more than anything. However, the other things such as siege weapons, new customization options, ability to use flying mounts in Northrend, the Hero Classes (DK now, the rest are still under development according to the panel), siege weapons and destructible buildings as well as new battle grounds and an outdoor PvP area complete with the siege weapons... and Dalaran!. I'm honestly excited about it.
If you don't find Northrend exciting.. well.. how can you honestly call yourself a WoW fan? >.< Howling Fjord looks amazing based on the in game footage shown on the blizzcon live stream... in fact, it all looks really amazing, except maybe Grizzly hills, but the stream was lagging when they showed it so maybe i missed something.. maybe not. Other than that, it looks good to me.
I do admit though, the trailer did suck. The narrative ruined it for me.
With that said, It is greedy to charge 40.00 for another expansion (if that's how much it will go for) when they are already getting 15+ a month. I'm hoping it'll be about $25 at the most. If it is more, I'll probably buy it.. but I still think it is too much considering what they make now.
Aug 3rd, 2007yeah, i guess it doesn't sound that bad now. it is still wild though, and no i dont think any of TBC sounded weird as it sounds now with this one. but, i know it'll be working fine.
i'm not particularly a wow fan, but i do enjoy many of the stuff that's in wow. from the screenshots, northrend looks just like any other place on wow. i'm probably not excited because i don't know the whole deal as much as you do and i only judge from what is described and shown so far. as a non-hardcore player.
Understandable.
Blizz has stated that their target is the player who is very active in WoW. The fact that there are no new races is proof of that. They just want to give more to the existing high level players and expand content based on player feedback.
hopefully someone will upload bits of the feed to youtube or something so you can see the new environments in action. As soon as I find more info, I'll be sure to post it.
The Expansion is still months away so, it's too soon to come to any conclusion yet. I, personally, am very excited right now. I'd still like more info about the Death Knight quest line and whether or not unfinished azeroth content will be worked on or not. Azshara is my favorite zone.. yet it is still so unfinished :/
I may have to actually roll alliance someday to be a Gnome Death Knight xD
Aug 3rd, 2007it seems wrong that the hero class is only for melee. they should follow in the footsteps of other games, and enable a hero class for all classes.
Aug 3rd, 2007 Feel free to contact meThey stated at Blizzcon that this is only the first hero class to be introduced. For sake of balance, they only want to introduce one at a time. Any class can unlock Death Knight. More than likely, any class will be able to unlock the other hero classes (when implemented) as well.
Aug 4th, 2007can't wait for death knight. gonna be awesome.
and yeh they're gonna make more hero classes later on.
yeaaaah! ♥ ^^
Aug 4th, 2007lol i dunno if it makes sense for a holy/ disc priest to suddenly unlock a death knight. i'm slightly rpish in my playing. i think what blizz is saying is only tanks and melee dps should buy the expansion, and everyone else should chill
Aug 4th, 2007 Feel free to contact meit sounds like you do a quest to unlock the class, then start a new character ( deathknight class). from what i heard they start at level 50 or so, instead of level 1.
Aug 4th, 2007The trailer is actually very awesome in the the fact that it shows how far done they are with all the areas. Remember they were rushed to release something because gamespot found out they were releasing the expansion before they wanted to go public with the information.

In the cold, harsh northlands...
Aug 3rd, 2007The Lich King Arthas has set in motion events that could lead to the extinction of all life on Azeroth. With the armies of the undead and the necromantic power of the plague threatening to sweep across the land, only the mightiest heroes can oppose the Lich King's will and end his reign of terror for all time.
Blizzard Entertainment's latest expansion to World of Warcraft – Wrath of the Lich King – adds a host of epic content to the existing game world. Players will achieve soaring levels of power, explore a vast new continent, and battle other high-level heroes to determine the fate of Azeroth. As you pit yourself against the dangers of the north, prepare to:
Features
* Master the necromantic powers of the Death Knight - World of Warcraft's first Hero class.
* Quest to level 80, gaining potent new abilities and talents along the way.
* Learn the craft of spell augmentation with the new Inscription profession.
* Brave the harsh new continent of Northrend, the icy domain of the Lich King.
* Engage in epic siege warfare, deploying mighty siege engines to lay waste to destructible buildings in your path.
* Transform your hero's look with new character-customization options, including new hairstyles and dances.
* Explore perilous new dungeons filled with some of the deadliest creatures -- and greatest treasures -- on Azeroth.
* And much, much more...

New Zone Type: Outdoor PVP
One of Northrend's 10 new zones (final count still tentative) is an outdoor PVP zone that introduces the concept of siege weapons (Meat Wagons, Steam Tanks, etc.) and destructible buildings. Blizzard describes the outdoor zone as basically a "non-instanced Battleground" where completing objectives earns world-wide bonuses for your side (Think Spirit Shard buff in Auchindoun instances). The PVP zone is entirely avoidable (if you're the carebear type), and seige weapons won't be useable outside their designated PVP area.
New Hero Class: Death Knight
World of WarCraft's first Hero Class is a plate-wearing tank/DPS hybrid that works a little something like this: When players hit level 80, they'll be able to embark on a quest (similar in difficulty to the Warlock's epic mount quest, back before the level cap was raised to 70) that unlocks the ability to create a Death Knight character. The Death Knight starts at a high level (somewhere around 60 or 70, though Blizzard isn't certain yet), so you won't have to grind your way back up all over again. It's intended as an alternative, advanced class for end-game use only.
Rather than using rage, energy, or mana, Death Knights have a special "rune sword" displayed beneath their health bar, onto which the player can etch six different runes (choose between Frost, Blood, and Unholy). Different abilities require different mixes of runes, and using abilities consumes the requisite runes until a cooldown timer causes them to be available again. Stuff like talents, spells, and other specifics are still being finalized. So are key questions like what races can be a Death Knight (start a Gnome petition now) and whether unlocking the Hero Class on one server means you can create a Death Knight on any server.
New Profession: Inscription
Wrath of the Lich King will introduce a new profession called Inscription that will let players customize individual spells and abilities in their spell book -- to change the cooldown timer on a Fireball, for example, or alter the crit rate of a healing spell.
There's lots more in the upcoming September issue of Games for Windows: The Official Magazine, on sale in the next couple weeks, including candid insight from the developers, details on some of the new dungeons not shown at BlizzCon, and word that The Burning Crusade ain't over yet...there's more BC content coming beyond Zul'Aman.

I for one am extremely excited about this expansion. I've been waiting for Northrend for a very long time.
Siege weapons and destructible builds! Yet another thing I've been anxiously awaiting ever since it was talked about during WoW beta.
The Death Knight Hero Class!
This class will be an unlockable class. All classes can do the quest line to unlock the Death Knight. Once unlocked, you can choose the Death Knight when you create a new character. The Death Knight will start at a high level (60+) and will play both Tank and DPS roles. He can also summon undead minions to serve him.
I have just found out that ALL players will be able to interact with Arthas at multiple points in the game. Finally the really good content isn't only available to the hardcore raiding market.
I'll be discussing more as I get more info. I'm currently watching a live blizzcon stream.
So far what are your impressions?
