Snow Leopards are also my fav big cats.
Jun 5th, 2011 ReplyThank you for your kind words. *hug* Yes, he had many cubs and his last son will stay at this zoo so that there at least a piece of him is still there.
EarthHart
That's great news! His immortality is assured through his son.
Jun 5th, 2011 Reply Respect & ResponsibilityBack in the '80s, I had a business, with my then wife, designing & making wildlife appliquéd sweatshirts. One of the designs was a Snow Leopard. One was worn by Bill Oddie, comedian & twitcher, on his BBC TV show "The Fax Show". On seeing the show, the director of Marwell Zoo phoned & asked me to visit him at the zoo. He wanted to talk about their Snow Leopard captive breeding programme & would I be interested in coming up with a design to help promote it & the Cat Species Survival Group of the IUCN.
There, I also met with the cats Keeper, Mark. He took me to see a female & her two cubs. On arriving, we went through his office & as he opened another door he told me to stay behind him and then we were in the pen. We crouched down and waited. All the time he was talking quietly about Marsha & her cubs. She was suckling them at the time. I felt elated. Being so close to the these beautiful cats, and seeing Marsha get up & slowly walk over to us, her cubs following her. She nuzzled & licked her keeper's hand, he nodded to me to hold out my hand in the same manner. Now I've been licked by my own cats, and know about their rough tongues. They ain't got nothing on a Snow Leopard. I'll remember that lick for ever.
The design I came up with, thanks to some shots I'd got, was of Marsha suckling her two cubs We used grey panne velvet & hand-painted the markings, so each was unique.

Wow, that sounds really amazing. I wish I could get that close to snow leopards, too.
. You are really lucky. How do their tongues feel?
