Spirit Tree

by t4mk4t in Acrylic Paintings

A freehand, emotional painting created on a recent "Girl's Night Out." We visited a local art studio for a two-hour class in which we were prompted to create "ornament trees." The immediate immersion without time spent planning or sketching allowed me to overcome the "fear of the white paper/canvas" and restored faith in my ability to create with acrylics! It was a very rewarding experience and I hope to create more works like this in time.

There is always something about 'immediate techniques' that are the most rewarding, this turned out very nice.

Thank you for saying so! It was indeed very liberating and I am pleased with the result...I would like to do pieces like this more often as an exercise in free expression! What do you think? I was thinking bi-weekly...oh, and thanks for the fave!!

You should do it as often you feel like, I know what you mean by getting past the fear of the white plane. I always start very free sketching in drawing, I draw random shapes and lines to get my hand flowing and mind open and eventually I spot something in the shapes or lines. Like how we see figures appear in clouds, you can end up creating almost anything. :P

ah...like intuitive painting! I like doing that too: random washes and wait for an image to appear then finish the piece. I did that with this piece here: http://shadowness.com/t4mk4t/shakin-off-winter-2
