Shadowness - sandrahultsved http://shadowness.com My name is Sandra Hultsved and I am a self-taught artist. I create my art mainly with pencils and ink. They get even more beautiful shape then and I would like to be able to capture that. I've also become very interested in capturing the fragility of death lately, and that is probably why I wanted to finish this now almost a year from when I started it. So it's not inspired by 'The beauty and the beast' more than maybe the aesthetics. When I think of my life as a whole, I now realize how far I've come. How much I've broken free from things that once were. This is also a note to myself of that, but also a reminder to continue to break free and not go with the flow just because it's easier. I have to go my own way to come to my dreams. Black & red ink, white for details. Her story: She is white as snow and cold as ice. She hasn’t always been like this though, no not at all. Long ago, many ages from now, she was like any kind of young girl. She had a warm loving heart and she loved to stroll around in the forest, just because it was so beautiful. There was only in the forest she felt safe and free. Down in the village where she lived, no one hardly ever noticed her at all and she didn’t even try to draw attention to herself. It was in the forest she enjoyed being, so she didn’t care so much about anything else that went on. Although there was one person who she had for long admired. But only furtively, because she didn’t dare to show him or tell him how she felt, she didn’t know how. She could only dream about how it would be if, contrary to all expectations, he would become hers. Ever until that day, when her dream became a nightmare.
She saw his hand attached to someone else’s, then their lips touched. In that very second, she felt like the entire sky fell right down on her. Crashed down! She gasped for her breath and then she just froze.
Her heart broke.
Why could she not have let him know how she felt, or at least tried to. Never ever would she be able to love someone again. Never!
A wrath of regret and grief grow inside of her. If she wouldn’t get to experience true love then no one else would too.
With an icy gaze, she went forward to the person, who for only a few seconds ago was the love of her life. The most perfect person in her eyes. Without a sound she took his hand in hers and saw how he slowly
froze to ice. From his warm loving heart, the blood is freezing out in
every vessel. The cold also reached in to the other hand which he hold on to. Then as silently and cold as she had gotten there, she let go of the frozen body and walked away. She went up to the forest, where she feel safe. She went past a rosebush with red roses and she went right up to them. Just staring at the
passionate red color, she reaches out her cold hand and touched
the roses petals. They turned all white with frost. After that day she live in the forest, if you can call her living anymore. She strolls around
like a lost soul in the forest and freeze everything with love
and happiness into ice. The end. Sun, 13 Jan 2013 10:18:24 -0500 The Ghost of Ofelia http://shadowness.com/sandrahultsved/the-ghost-of-ofelia
Oils on canvas Closeups can be seen here: http://fav.me/d5qj1mu The painting and story is inspired by Hamlet's Ophelia by Shakespeare, but as always with my own interpretation. The idea first came to me in a dream where I saw girl with a pendant holding it like that, saying "I'm Ofelia", then I woke up. And now several years later I finally completed the idea. The story idea is new though, please read it below. Here's her story: She came towards me up from the water, as I stood under the willow tree near the broke. The branches were heavy with leaves that blew in the wind and they veiled my sight from her. It was not until she had come closer under the willows branches, that I could see her face and eyes. I shivered as I met her stare, because her eyes was doll like and cold, yet with a fragile and melancholy look. I was immediately captured by her look and although she frightened me, I was fond of her beauty. Her skin was pale and her red hair was wet and tangled, but with natural waves. On her head she had a garland of flowers and the colors of the flowers looked vibrant towards her otherwise so pale look and long white dress. –"I'm Ofelia", she said with a delicate voice, when she stood right in front of me. Then she lift up her hand towards the neck and showed me the pendant that she carried around her neck. There was an image in the middle that portrayed a man. –"This is my love", she said looking down at the pendant sorrowfully. –"Although he was the one putting me down here...", she paused. I stood there silently waiting for her to continue. Then she looked up at me again, with a gaze so deep and dark, I could not move or say a word. It was like my whole body had numbed. But I could feel her pain through her eyes. –"Please help me", she said with an even more fragile voice than before. Then it was like she was drawn back to the broke, into the water again. I followed to the edge of the bank and saw as her white dress disappeared drowning into the dark muddy water. Tue, 08 Jan 2013 13:31:55 -0500 Between life & fairytale -poster http://shadowness.com/sandrahultsved/between-life--fairytale-poster
"Welcome to a world between life & fairytale. (Please fullview for details) Story: Once upon a time there was a little girl, she had a big warm heart and was liked by everyone. But there was something about her people did not know, she was afraid to fall in love. Every time someone came her too close, she would run away. Too scared of being hurt, she thought that was the best thing to do. Years past by, while flowers fade, leaves fall and snow melts. Suddenly one early spring day she found her prince. She fell in love with him. She could not help it. Never the less she was too scared to show him how she really felt. Every time he came around, she felt very shy and wanted to hide. And all these sparkling feelings inside of her, that no one will ever know and she will never show how much she adored him. In misery and love she now lived and decided to get rid of all this feelings inside of her. Because she knew she would only get hurt in the end anyway. She ran away, ran to the forest behind the Twilight-mountains. And beneath a big old tree she fell down in tears. She mourned the love she will never have. If only she had seen all the keen glances he had given her. She regretted the feelings she had for him. Why could she not understand he was feeling the same way about her. She is heart broken, because she feared of being hurt. But what she did not know was, that he would never hurt her. ”One cut and it will not hurt anymore. One cut and I will not feel anymore. One cut and it will all be over…” She cut out her heart and buried it in the ground under a big stone beneath the tree. “Now I can not get hurt anymore.” The end. Tue, 07 Aug 2012 06:15:26 -0400 Whisper http://shadowness.com/sandrahultsved/whisper
Black and white ink, pen & graphite pencils. My inspiration for this begun after I was asked to do artworks for a band (Bleeding Tears), it kinda ran out in the sand. But my inspiration and ideas where still there and I liked the feeling in it a lot. So this is what turned out. It's not the character that I imagined for their artwork, but it's an inspiration of the mood. You should really listen to their songs though, this is the song that inspired me, Bleeding Tears - Prelude into the Fear: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DO6vfDzyu4Q&feature=plcp Wed, 04 Jul 2012 05:55:41 -0400
