The term <i>industrial music</i> was meant by its creators to evoke the idea of music created for a new generation of people, previous music being more agricultural. The first wave of this music appeared in the late 1970s -industrial music was more hard hitting and thought-provoking and less easy to swallow (being basically noise music).
