practicing? well damn.... i wish you would do a step by step process or tutorial showing how to do vector portraits.... i want to try one but dont know where to begin im familiar with photoshop not illustrator

I do my stuff on photoshop too. :)) Here's one from my latest artwork.. It's more of a workflow than a tutorial. :)) but I hope it would give you the idea.

so when you line do you actually line with a pen and then scan it and import into PS or do you use the pen tool?

No I don't sketch. I use a reference photo and put it directly to ps. I use pen tool all through out the process.
