I took up photography a few years ago after retirement and I'm having a lot of fun trying to get better at the craft and improving my images. When I see the great photos and artwork on this site it's an inspiration to improve. Thanks to those who take the time to offer comments and any constructive criticism is appreciated.
All animals and birds I present here are wild with the obvious exception of my cat.
Just a few words about why i joined this site. I have never considered myself an artist. I have no artistic training, in fact I have no photographic training and I have gotten to the point I am at now, good or bad by trial and error and to me that's been the fun of the whole thing. In the first year after I had bought my first digital SLR and a couple of decent lens I had not taken a single picture that I could have said was a "good shot". I am just now after 4 years starting to understand what makes a good nature or wildlife photo. I think my wildlife photography is less about artistic ability and more about understanding wildlife and being there to report on it, more like photo journalism. I believe the animals and birds themselves provide the reason to view a photograph in that their beauty and colours are what is important and interesting. I just have to be there to document it. So I consider myself as a reporter, embedded in the field, or bush or swamp and giving those that don't have the opportunity like I do to see these animals as much of the story as I can. In the meantime I am working on the artistic aspect of the whole thing and when and if I figure it out my photography I'm sure will improve immensely.
