The Mentor Program here on Shadowness have several mentors (and students!) up for grabs who delve into different areas, mediums and have different kinds of experiences. This interview series which will come out every Monday (instead of Monday Feel Good) will let you know a bit more about each mentor on the list.
If you find an interviewed mentor interesting, don't hesitate to send them a private message and if they say yes contact me so I know who's mentoring who! You can of course sign up as a mentor and/or student in search of a mentor, on the list, by sending a private message to /Caja
Hello, my name is Simon I’m 30 years old and an Art Director from capital of Poland - Warsaw.
What does ART mean to you?
Art is a way to express myself and free ideas that are in my mind, it's a way to make our world a little bit beautiful everyday.
What is your art form? And how long have you delved in this?
I don't think my art got a form yet, world inspires us everyday and we get changed by it... so does our art.
Was there anything or anyone in particular that prompted your choice of art form?
As i think of it i can't really remember a time when i thought “Hey i will make art!”, it sort of just happened. I was always drawing, making or photographing things and people. Of course my parents supported me in this, someone had to pay for the millions of old film stock i needed :), they teached me that Art is important, told me to look at Mona Lisa at the Louvre in Paris even though I was too small and didn't really know why all those people were so amazed about that lady's portrait.
How would you describe your art to someone who haven't seen it?
My friends would say: girls + pink and blue colors hehe.
Have you had education in art or are you self-taught?
I'm 100% self taught, I'm aiming in Art studies though... I want to learn something more.
Mostly I've learned by my own mistakes, just plying with Photoshop and Illustrator. I've spent hours having pure fun of combining different effects actions and techniques and of course let's not forget about lots and lots of tutorials, books, magazines, case studies of projects etc.
Who and/or what inspire you?
Life inspires me every day.
David LaChapelle, Andy Warhol, Banksy... and many more
What is the greatest lesson in art that you've learned?
A man paints with his brain and not with his hands.
What can you teach others?
Art should show the world better then the one we live in, it should be unrealistic. As David LaChapelle once said: “If you want reality, take the Bus!”
What tips can you offer to better oneself in his or her art?
Always aim at perfection, never step back, make smART choices in Your life and don't be lazy ;)
