killadore - Under the Mask
I wanted to keep this one very rough and simple. Unlike other works of mine, I decided to put the photorealism aside. The idea was to illustrate the loss of identity, but it can probably be understood in many other ways..

finished in 2003

killadore - Linde
A very old portrait of Linde from the Finnish band HIM. I know the guitar neck looks unusually gigantic, but I still like the overall atmosphere of this one.

I used a photo reference for this, but unfortunately I have lost it.

killadore - Stolen Season
There's something so tragic about toys that have been left behind. For one person an old, dusty, dirty ragdoll may contain the most precious memories of an otherwise obscured childhood, and yet for everyone else it may be just another ugly, stupid doll in a window.

killadore - Goodbye
My latest traditional with color pencils. This is a heavily experimental piece, done purely for relaxation. So obviously no references or guidelines used.

I wanted to show ambivalence with this one. Might not be so easily noticeable, but the torso and head are seen from the back while the arm and abdomen are facing the complete opposite direction of what they should.

  • XtractDesigns for what its worth, i think forthe wonderful detail used here the proportions are a bit touchy. I mean I understand this is not supposed to be the most realistic piece, hence the color choice and so forth but I think you could have created an equally effective piece with some adjustments. for example the nose looks too stylized compared to the amazing work on the lips and with the way you fight against the stereotypical naive "eye shape" for the eyes the chin seems a bit long and the bottom of the face seems far too narrow or perhaps too stretched. This is only because of how you developed the top half of the head, cut this piece in half and you'd have two very strong and proportional pieces, however when put together they seem to create an imbalance, they fight against each other almost. I think if you were to cut a small horizontal portion from the center of the head and shift up the bottom that would make this piece so much stronger, you'd really be surprised. Dont let any of what i said discourage you though, this is a strong piece and I enjoy it, more specifically the eyes and lips. however the slight elongation of the face (mostly the chin) makes it look a bit cartoony and takes away from how strong this could be. I struggle with the same issues myself at times so don't take this as a put down at all. great work! glad to see some traditional media on here :)

  • killadore hehe yeah, i know what you mean :) noticed most of those things myself. but i finished this about 2 years ago and started it about a year earlier, so hopefully i've grown a bit since then :P thanks a lot for your honesty and for the long critique! it was a nice surprise
