      Well, it's going to be a YA book. Anyway on with the summary

      Elise Haggerton is presumably an average, albeit on the shy side, fifteen year old waiting for her sixteenth birthday, however not everything is as it seems. When a barn owl flies from a perch across the street it leads to a chance encounter that her mother was hoping to not see, and Elise meeting a friend of her mother's at the local soda fountain. For you see that as most events are never a coincidence, the owl is her mother's family guardian warning her of her daughter's upcoming birthday and what that means (even though she knows full well). That her daughter is of sorceress descent and once she turns sixteen can attend the Academy.On the other side, Elise finds out the one guest at the Soda Fountain is a friend of her mother's driving through to get to New York City when she invites him and his family, wife Donna and daughter Jocelyn, leads to another meeting that Elise's mother, Patricia Haggerton, wasn't expecting. Seeing as her friend, Donovan Highridge, is not just any friend but was her history teacher at the Academy as well as her mentor and master for the six years of her attendance there. On her birthday, Elise struggles with the information her mother gives, however decides that she wants to go to the Academy. When this happens Elise embarks on a journey she wasn't sure where it was going to lead to meeting new people, finding out things she never knew existed, and an underground political movement that starts to make things at the school and within the magical community and out a bit more complicated than it has been.

      That's a long summary, I need to cut it down don't I? That's the logistics anyways.
