Shadowness - katana626 N/A en Deception
Andrew Jacob $400; Medium: Steel Deception is based on the idea of perception being a lie. We each have our own beliefs of what is true, but things are not always how they seem. For example, we are not able to explain what gravity is, but we just “know” that it exists. In Deception, my intention is to emphasize this idea. I wanted to create an illusion by using a solid and heavy weight element and present it in a way that deceives the eye. My actual intention is the hidden image. (Therefore, if you look at it and take a wild guess on what it is, it is most likely certain that you're wrong). I want to hear from you and see what you think! This piece was made of found junk. Mostly steel, cast iron, mirror, glass, and plastic. -A Jacob Wed, 07 Dec 2011 19:26:06 -0500 To Grasp
This is an interactive kinetic mechanical hand attached to an arm and supported by bungee cords. As the viewer moves the arm up or down the fingers open or closed. The fingers function with the combination of steel springs and carbon fiber strips which put the fingers in their original position. The hand itself is constructed from conduit steel piping, copper piping, and aluminum. The base is obviously made of wood, but what you don't see is the weight inside of the box (a 25lb dumbbell) to counter balance the weight of the hand. (Its also hard to see by just the picture, but the two pedestals are not directly aligned - if the hand went straight down it would not touch the banana) As for the image of a very large hand and the banana over its shadow, it's really up to you what the story is...feel free to share your thoughts! I didn't plan anything. It's something I did on my free time and went with the flow...It's made out of aluminum and steel (scraps that I found in the junkyard). Sun, 06 Nov 2011 01:52:28 -0400
