May 24th, 2012Lowbrow is a widespread populist art movement with origins in the underground comix world, punk music, hot-rod street culture, and other subcultures. Lowbrow art often has a sense of humor - sometimes the humor is gleeful, sometimes impish, and sometimes it is a sarcastic comment. The single most common tactic that Lowbrow artists employ is to poke fun at convention. They know the "rules" of art, and consciously choose not to abide by them. If the test of time for legitimacy (as an artistic movement) means that Lowbrow speaks/spoke, in visual terms, to the millions of us who share a common cultural, symbolic language - albeit a "lower" or "middle" class, media-driven language - then, yes, Lowbrow is here to stay. Anthropologists will probably study Lowbrow in the future, to attempt to figure out late 20th and early 21st century U.S. societal influences.

Mar 29th, 2012~My name is Jennifer Gelinas and I'm from Ithaca, NY where I graduated from highschool in 1997. I began college courses there, focusing on psychology and philosophy. I eventually decided to forgo mainstream education to pursue my own studies in the Metaphysical. I'm now a certified Reiki practitioner, although I'm not currently practicing. I now live in Cortland, NY and have a 5 year old daughter, named Abree. ~I've always been an artist in many forms, including music. I'm proficient in both French Horn and Trumpet. I had been interested in Photo Manipulation for a long time. I had always admired others work in that area, but it seemed like such a complicated process. But, in late November 2011, I decided to give it a go and try to learn. I looked around the net, got some info, and figured out what kind of program I needed. I stumbled on a few that had the tools I needed, but I wasn't very happy with the interface. Then, I got photoshop. I ate, drank, and slept it (well, not much sleep, actually...lol). I poured my heart and soul into learning what I had so admired in other's work. ~Finally, I reached a goal that I thought was completely unattainable on April 4th when I was honored with a Daily Deviation for my work 'Tree Of Life' on deviantART. ~I now work with Photographer Kevin Jairaj of KJ Images Photography and do numerous freelance jobs.

Aug 3rdWelcome to my Shadowness profile! First thing you should know is I will fav and run! I don't always have a comment -- but by fav'ing your work, I'm clearly stating that I love it. :D Secondly, Yes I did consider putting a bunch of gobbledygook here about who I am, what my inspirations are, my mediums, my shows and my awards -- Wouldn't it just be easier and less irritating to visit my website instead? I've got a lot more work there, plenty of information about me and mine, as well as information about how you can own some. :)

Oct 18th, 2011I’m Christel Michiels and I’m graphic designer from Belgium. I discovered the art of Photo Manipulation on Deviantart, a major creative community, which I joined in 2006.This curiosity became a passion but my first drafts lacked technique and signification. Communication by imagery is very important to me. I've finally found my format and my style after many hours of trial and practice. My craft evolved most between 2008-2009 and a new passion was born in the form of Darkyria Design. Darkyria Design is the creative name that I chose because it reflects my personality and my art. This new knowledge of Photo Manipulation was added to previous skills acquired earning my bachelor degree in Graphic Design and it allows me to explore beauty in darkness, forgotten worlds, myths and legends but it is also a great way to narrate stories with my own vision and to give and share some of my feelings with other people through characters. My primary work is with fantasy and with emotional and dark illustrations. Most often I choose female character as the main subject. I specialize in creating multiple types of art, available on the net for print issues.
