Dr. René Gerónimo Favaloro
1923 - 2000
It was a prestigious doctor cardiocirujano Argentine world renowned for being who performed the first heart bypass in the world.
He studied medicine at the University of La Plata and once received, after passing through the Polyclinic Hospital, moved to the town of Jacinto Arauz to temporarily replace the local doctor, who had health problems.
In turn, read current medical literature and began to take interest in thoracic surgery. In the late 1960s he began to study a technique for using the saphenous vein in coronary surgery.
In the early 1970s he founded the foundation that bears his name.
He served in the Conadep, led television programs dedicated to medicine and wrote books.
During the crisis of 2000, the foundation had a great economic debt and the government asked for help with no response, which led him to commit suicide.
The July 29, 2000, after writing a letter to President De la Rua criticizing the health system, committed suicide by a shot to the heart
