Feb 13th, 2011Welcome To Kash's Monthly Competition!
Feb 13th, 2011Candid, un-staged photography which captures, explores or questions contemporary society and the relationships between individuals and their surroundings. In simpler words: People in candid situations in public places. Minimum post-processing only! * What we like and what we don't * 1. We like better "street" shots from close, which put one right into the action, without totally rejecting shots from far, which showcase a carefully composed scene pleasing to the eye. 2. We believe that B/W helps in a better composed picture without the colour that sometimes is very destructing without rejecting "street" shots in which colour rather adds than subtracts from the picture 3. We are not fond of beggar and homeless shots, from people who just sit still, or from shots of people just passing in front of a poster. As a matter of fact, We don't like "just" shots! (Just another guy, Just another pretty girl, Just another backshot, just another street musician etc.) but are seeking for those special moments that take place out in public places with people interacting with their environment in a special, unusual, unique way which forms a story worth telling by an image. 4. We are not fond of pictures of people shot from the back unless we're talking about very special images. 5. We believe that a good street shot needs nothing more than minor adjustments in contrast and sharpness. 6. We like shots where even if one thinks one is close enough, one gets even closer! 7. We believe that a shot is "street" when one can smell the street in it, knowing that there are very different kinds of noses and that many street shooters if not all, smell with their hearts. 8. We know that the "street" genre is a very misunderstood one, a very broad one almost with no limits and is higly subject to each one's peronal tastes. Some people's taste stink, some people's taste is excellent, some people's taste is getting better with time.
Apr 7th, 2011Urban photography is defined as landscape photography, featuring great and hardly celebrated man-made structures, in an urban setting that usually only indicates the presence of human beings, and only rarely shows the actual presence of them. These structures could be skyscrapers, bungalows, streetlights, park benches, bridges, sidewalks and more, and they could be in tip-top or abysmal condition.
