it's a small island close to key west, FL called fort jefferson. it's a part of the dry tortugas national park

One of two intact Civil War era forts in the Florida Keys and the site of Dr. Samuel Mudd's incarceration after being accused of aiding and abetting John Wilkes Boothe in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. During his imprisonment, he became beloved as a compassionate physician to the other inmates. He was eventually pardoned though his conviction was never overturned.
