A tribute to the artwork of JW Waterhouse who I greatly admire. I wanted to re-create one of my personal favorites using an entirely different medium. In this artwork I used over 50 photographic elements combined with digital painting to create a work with the same theme, colour pallete and general composition as Waterhouse's original work 'Hylas & the Nymphs'.
This was certainly an epic undertaking with almost all of the photographic elements being photographed by myself. The female models are in fact all the same person with the facial features being painted over to achieve the right 'look'.
The riverbank is a photo of the Orara River which is close to where I live & where I swam as a child. The lilly pads were growing in a pond at my grandmothers house, the reeds also growing in her garden. The male model is one of my brothers who was nice enough to throw on a toga for a few classical inspired poses. Alot of work but so much fun!
