Mermaid for a Daughter

Commissioned piece 2012. Model photo supplied by client & all the rest is painted. Many, many hours of work... but I had alot of fun with this one. I loved mixing her hair with the seaweed and hiding all the little sea creatures among a coral and shell bodice I designed for her. Sometimes I feel like a fashion designer for mermaids. What an awesome job that would be!

Cast in Stone

The idea behind this: I was imagining a creature being released from a spell (in which it was cast as stone) Perhaps so much time has passed while the spell was in place that the unicorn is now the last of its kind STOCK Unicorn face & horn is compiled from many little snippets of horses from my personal collection and lots of painting & repainting. I know there are lots of little things I could improve but it was a commissioned piece from years ago which the client was very happy with & I have put into the FINISHED folder I've had many 'critiques' that point out that the unicorn horn is rather large... Unicorns are total fantasy. I don't believe in their actual existence but if I did I reckon they would be able to have a horn any size they wanted, they are magical after all.
