Hey, i'd like to hear what softwares do you use to make your art and what would you recommend to new aspiring artists in different fields: 3D, painting, photography, web design, animation etc.

  • Ssquared photoshop :D I think everyone has is and it's def a must for everyone!
for 3D, I use to use 3dsmax, but I don't really do much 3D work so I have no say.

I use illustrator once in a while, not often, but it's def useful :D
dreamweaver to upload everything... cause I'm too lazy to use the web to do everything... I just wanna click and viola!

once in a while I'l use flash but Im not good at it at all. I'm happy if I can get something to move! haha.

I use iphoto to store and look at everything. but once in a while I'll open aperture.

    what about you meng?

  • axl99 Photoshop 7, Painter 7 [or 9 if I feel like].

I've used CS2 for school before, haven't tried CS3. When I was doing my animated short I was bouncing between that, Premiere and Aftereffects. I hear there are animation programs out there that combine the same basic capabilities as those three and can handle 2D and 3D, but those are pretty effing expensive in the thousands range.

Premiere's kickass for basic film editing [from storyboard stages and up], and Aftereffects is like the Photoshop for videos. I wish I had time to use another snazzy program for sound design, like Protools, but used Premiere instead.

  • theKuro Yeah I could use an iPod as well >_>

  • DarkPsychosis Um ... Paper, Pencil, Ink, Paint .... and then trusty old Photoshop.

Never really got the feel for sketching in software.

  • GEAR-CX I recommend Alias Sketch Pro (or I suppose the Autodesk equivalent nowadays) for those wanting drawing applications. As for 3d, I'd say Blender 3d works very well since it is free and relatively simple. Also, for those beginning 3d, I'd say that Blender works well because if you decide that 3d is not for you later on in your course of usage, it's not a waste of $300
