All art is derivative of a few simple techniques. Some tool is generally used to apply medium to a ground, or surface. In the digital age, we use pixels; cave-dwellers used ground up stones for pigment, as well as leaves, berries and even blood to create lasting marks on their chosen surface.
We’ve come a long way! In the Shadowness community, we have the blessed luck to experience the best of both worlds. At Shadowness, we have high-end artists well versed in both digital and traditional media. The one thing that ties them together are the basic techniques still used to create in both mediums.
Since joining Shadowness, I have had the opportunity to interview several great artists, and one of the common themes that I have seen is that traditional techniques helped the top level digital artists understand more about what they were creating, and gave them techniques that they still use in order to create stunning art in both mediums.
Each Saturday, I’ll be bringing you the best of the Traditional artists here at Shadowness. Please use their work to educate and improve your own knowledge and skills.
