The Shadowness Vision:

Most web-sites that offer subscriptions to their members need the subscription money to run their site. They use your money to pay internet costs, storage and server costs as well as labor costs for their staff and rent on their offices, if they have them.

Shadowness differs from this model in every way. Shadowness may be the first art-site of its kind to take a very hard look at profit coming from its members. In our Vision article, Meng talks about wanting to have no profits from the community, and to use all the money earned by Shadowness to fund contests, pay for commissions and to generally just keep the site up and running while improving it at every turn.

In order to make this a reality, Meng began to offer Shadowness Subscriptions about 3 months ago. Since then we have had about 70+ subscribers who have allowed us to create the /forthewin Contest and several hundred dollars in donations that allowed us to purchase a second server, in order to keep things on Shadowness running at top speed! No lag here! Lol.
