Hi! My name is Joseph or Joe or just plain HEY YOU!. Whichever you prefer. I am an avid reader of books, writer of songs, poems, and other strange litanies of magical inference.
I sing all the time, loudly. I love tom waits.
My favorite genre(s) of music are probably the blues and jazz. Coltrane, Hendrix, the 3 Kings, BB, Albert, and Freddy, Mingus, Louis Armstrong, Muddy Waters, and Tom Waits have been almost life-long companions for me.. and good ones. Never let me down once.
The person who dragged me kicking and screaming to Shadowness would be /dehk . He takes photographs of light. Go check it out.
My greatest obstacle is probably focusing on 'the goal' rather than the here and now. I have too much here and now. lol. Or so I think. :)
It's a privilege to meet all of you, I hope to hear from you soon!
I didn't do this when I joined so uhh I guess I will now!
I don't have one favorite genre of music, but I normally listen to hip-hop, rap, R&B, country, and certain rock songs. I know it's a weird combo but I'm not a normal person so it's okay. My favorite musicians are T.I., Eminem, Drake, and Lil Wayne are the main ones. I've been listening to Waka Flocka for a little bit now and my friend from the Army is making mixtapes and I listen to her (Kyd Lip).
I found Shadowness through Larissa (MorbidSheep), she makes the sexiest mandlebulbs ever! We were talking about how dA isn't that great now and what not. Since I started drawing she told me to sign up here cause it's a friendly community.
My biggest obstacle at this very second would be getting a job.
this is great collection
Jun 10th, 2011Hello my friends, my Name is Luis Miguel Garcia, im from a small country in the center of America Honduras. i like the web design, photography, im writing about my life in small notes (soon will be online) i like to draw, listen music. im a big fan of Social Networks, as Community Manager in Facebook and Twitter.
What is your favorite Genre of music or musician(s)?
Heavy Metal ~ Power Metal ~ Symphonic Metal ~ Classical Music
MANOWAR
Judas Priest
Epica
Gammaray
Helloween
Iced Earth
Antonio Vivaldi
How did you find Shadowness?
I was looking for some new portfolio websites, so i came to Shadownes, and im very happy to find this beautiful place!
What is your greatest obstacle?
The social and economic obstacles here in my country (HONDURAS)
I never stop learn, im crazy about this. and i like to find answers to all.
What a wonderful collection of artwork!
I did not take part in this either when I joined....so I'll share.
My all time favorite type of music is hard core, grinding metal!!!! Anything by Metallica, Mudvayne, Megadeth, Slipknot (you get the picture...lmao). But I actually have very eclectic taste in music. I like rap, blues, classic rock. The only thing I absolutely REFUSE to listen to is country music. I grew up around it and have always hated it!!! Maybe it was too much exposure as a kid...lol.
I was invited to Shadowness by Katerina Koukiotis. She is just the sweetest person and she has been so supportive of my work, which is great because I have much room for improvement. And I also have to give a big thanks to JurgenDoe
who was sweet enough to get me a subscription (because I kept griping about not having emoticons
). Thank you dear!!!
My biggest obstacle is trying to find the time to spend working on my art. I was away from it for over 20 years. After I graduated college, I just quit painting? Then last year, I started using the wacom tablet with Photoshop and I find that it opened the door for me again. I've even tried watercolors!!!!! But with a full time job and the mundane day to day things like housework, it's really hard to find all the time I'd like to devote to art. I've missed it SO MUCH!!!
And thank you to all the really spectacular people on SN! You guys are all great
.
You've made me feel so welcome and I truly appreciate it!!!
Hi, My name is Gregorius Suhartoyo, I'm a freelance photographer & motion graphic artist.
I love orchestra & soundtrack kind of music. I really like Hans Zimmer music, it's so inspiring & make my mind calm & sometimes full of fantasy
I know this community from /c-hass journal. From the first time I saw & joined Shadowness, I already fall in love with it. Because of the warm welcome & friendly people in this community, also it's layout lol
Now I'm a Shadowness Moderator, I hope I can do something for this community & helping it getting bigger & better
My greatest obstacle is concentrate on what I do. Sometimes I'm easily getting distracted with things around me :( I hope I can be a better person & artist
It's really nice to meet & know you all. Keep inspiring & kindly in this lovely community
My favorite Genre:
Indie rock/Electronic/Pop, Post rock, Breakcore, Noise, IDM, Trip-Hop, Hardcore, Post-Hardcore, Mathcore, Grindcore, Metalcore, Deathcore, Punkcore, Rapcore, Jazzcore, Spazzcore
My favorite bands: Rolo Tomassi, Rinoa, Sholi
About the shadowsness told me my friend.
Well, let's see..My favorite types of music would have to be experimental, i.e. Pink Floyd, Coldplay, and way too many others. I also enjoy Folk, Bluegrass, Classical, Alternative, Ambient, Indie, oh and Neil Young :D
I found Shadowness through Andrew aka http://shadowness.com/mindwarp2 who also inspired me to create http://shadowness.com/MusicallyInspired from his own group, http://shadowness.com/love4photography.
I have been with http://www.deviantart.com/ for over 5 years and it has really helped me artistically become a better photographer, so, I don't bad mouth them, rather promote them.
I do enjoy the friendliness and courtesy here on SN along with the "real-time" advice from fellow shadows when it comes to questions on how to work things, thanks!
My obstacle would be getting work as a photographer, but at the moment I have an upcoming shoot in Hollywood, CA doing headshots for $$, YaY!
An extra note - I want to personally show my appreciation to all the staff here at SN and simply say thanks for the support :D
Heya, Shady-land peeps!
:) I'm Mariam, currently 23, residing in Denmark and I do a little bit of everything when it comes to art, photography, tattoo designs, modeling, traditional and digital art, etc.
I appreciate music (and art) from all genres as long as it's bullshit-free, my safe card is Tool at the moment.
Been a member of Shadowness on and off for many years ever since I found out about the site through other art sites. It's good to see the site back and looking more beautiful than ever and with an active community :) Also nice to have a more serious alternative to deviantArt.
My greatest obstacle in art and in life in general is to find the time and energy for all the stuff I wanna do, since I'm one of those people who constantly have several projects going at the same time. And as the great Michelangelo said "I hope I may always desire more than I can accomplish."
Its an honor to meet all of you. I've been seeing your work for a bit of time now, in most cases. And I'm very happy that you've all decided to come over to the dark-side!
Jun 10th, 2011:))
Hello Shadows! I'm Catherine Odarve, from Philippines. I'm a college student and a newbie artist. :) I love listening to bossa nova, pop, country, jazz and contemporary music. Every musician is great and i love so many of them. Brad Paisley and Matthew West and some local musicians like Sitti Navarro and Richard Poon never failed to inspire me, just to name a few. :)
My friends, (/8790 /7987 /8981) introduced me the land of the shadows. I'm really grateful to them. And now I'm so honored to be part of this amazing community.
I guess my biggest obstacle as of now is getting through college and as well as time management.
Keep rocking shadowness! Thank you for your very warm welcome!
---->VxV Ph
Wonderful collection!
Anyways short bio: Twenty year old college student who loves art in any medium, and photographer and fledgling traditional artist (at least I started seriously improving this year). Art has always been a hobby, but more recently a serious hobby that maybe I want to do more with.
My favorite musicians? That's hard to answer I'm pretty eclectic when it comes to music I have to say I don't like country, rap, or hip hop. Some R&B is okay. In terms of bands I love R.E.M, Arcade Fire, The Pixies, Within Temptation, Nightwish, Sirenia, Depeche Mode, Grouplove, The Shins, Natalie Macmaster, Jorane, Natalie Merchant, Enter the Haggis, Sarah McLachlan, The Cranberries, Led Zeppelin, QUEEN, Eric Clapton, Peter Gabriel, Genesis, The Beatles, Radiohead, Coldplay, Snow Patrol, Adele, Muse, Emilie Autumn, The Birthday Massacre, and so many more bands that would just take forever to write
I found Shadowness through a friend (who I was supposed to have her invite me through), but I made the mistake to give her my email after I created the account. The awesome /PinkPotatoeChips. She wrote about how much she loved this site, and I decided to take a look and I was amazed at the talent and the whole community feel to this site. Plus the layout is extremely awesome
My greatest obstacle? That's a little vague isn't it? In terms of artistic pursuits or other ways? Artistically getting a better understanding of drawing from technique to proportion, things that come with practice. In photography to be able to get the equipment I need to take my photography to the next level. In terms of everything else? That is another can of worms.
Oh great art, be welcomed.
Jun 10th, 2011hehe, Cybergranny. :)
Jun 10th, 2011Hello, Great Shadow-lings!
I'm a moody listener when talking to genre, and yet picky, whatever sounds that has "souls" and uniqueness while having emotion attached to 'em, my ears are open. But usually love to hear some Classics and also Metal, and Rock'nRoll, Punks, too.. and Grunge. Most Nobue uematsu's BGM, and Michiru Yamane's for Game Soundtracks, Sergei Vasilievich Rachmaninoff, Basch, Beethoven, Pachable, Don Giovanni, and Vivaldi for the classics and of course W.A Mozart. While Trivium, Lamb of God, System of A Down & Dragon Force for the Metal that I love the most.
I'm not too good --I know-- in art, I only have my works fav-ed by myself just 1-2 pieces. I love looking others artworks for feeds my eyes and will invoke my lust for making more artworks, while listening to my music playlists.
I know this forum from http://shadowness.com/TracelandVctrie , and when I'm in need of a new refreshing social art forum specifically, I'm in love with shadowness in 3 days. :)
My greatest obstacle is myself.. and I determined to kill it. But what' is a life without obstacle?
Anyways, I love the warm people in here. It is a lovely place and great inspirations in every corner of it. Be the best, Shadowness!
Hi everybody!
I'm George from Greece, currently a university student. I love photography but only recently I was able to afford a dSLR and be serious about it. So newbie here hoping to learn a lot from you guys and girls.
Music...let's see. I spend time hearing a lot of post-rock and experimental stuff although I'm known to head back to the (rock) classics, jazz and occasionally classical. So under the title "artists" on my current playlist you would find: The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Tool, Pink Floyd, David Gilmour, Ramsey Lewis' and Billy Taylor's trios, Strauss and Debussy, Saint-Seans and Shumann, Zoe Keating, Gotan Project, Black Angels, Explosions in the sky, If these trees could talk and Sigur Ros.
I learned about shadowness.com while reading a post on The Yard Collective blog on dA. Tracing some of the best photographs around back to shadowness was more than enough to convince me to join while the warm welcome I received once here made me stay and get around the site.
My greatest obstacle: myself. Well that, and time management. Being able to afford some lightning equipment would be nice as well, but to be honest, my greatest obstacle will always be myself. Finding new ways to "see" and compose, writing down new ideas and trying them out is currently my way of getting around said obstacle and raising the bar ever higher.
That's it!
Sorry for any misspellings I missed (English isn't my first language)! And thanks for the warm welcome.

Oh, I always love this article ^^ (my turn my turn -jumping happily-). Please note that if I write *BONG* that means I hit my head with super giant hammer toy ^^
Hello hello to all of you *bow bow*. I am Meutia, but I prefer to be called Muthe (because it's more masculine rather than feminine, and yes you are right, I am tomboi! :p). I am a grad student, studying pharmacology in Bandung, Indonesia. I love photography since I was in junior high school, but due to some issues, I've only been practicing it since 2008 or 2009 and getting more seriously since last year, when I "stole" my father's analog SLR camera (and I am really in love with it, although I don''t develop by myself).
My favorite music genre... I don't have a favorite *BONG*. I mostly listen to pop songs, especially songs that have a great meaning. I also listen to cheerful songs (like RnB, hip hop music, Korean boy band music -so far I've only listened to 2 PM and Super Junior, and I love bollywood songs!). So, I will love any songs that have a great meaning in the lyrics, especially the uplifting spirit meaning.
I knew Shadowness from Topicality, when she talked about it in dA chatroom. I took a look, and then decided to join it, and I'm glad I did that, I love this community. So many great people here ^^
The greatest obstacle of me, in everything I do, is myself. Yeah, my friends have been kicking me for that a lot. And also my mood. When I have a bad mood, I can't do anything, ANYTHING! but weird thing is, if I am determined enough to do something, no matter how many ups and downs I experience, I will keep moving to reach my goals.
Yep, that's me, the contradict one :D
Now, welcome to Shadowness to all of new members, enjoy your stay here ^^ Have a great weekend to all of you (yes, it's already Saturday here, muwahahahahaahhaahha *BONG*)

First of all I’d like to say thanks for the meet and greet. I must admit to being a bit wary of online communities, but I have to say that Shadowness is a very welcoming place. I’m from Australia, but please don’t hold that against me
Let’s see … music? I don’t have favourites … I just like lots of different types. Pretty middle of the road I’d say: Australian bands like The Waifs, Angus and Julia Stone, John Butler Trio, Powderfinger; I’m quite taken with Augie March’s One Crowed Hour and I love Eskimo by Damien Rice from his album ‘O’; Rodrigo y Gabriela are fabulous. I also like some Michael Franti, Stone Temple Pilots, Cee Lo Green, Bruno Mars, Propellerheads … that’s just some of what I like.
I’d be on dA about a year ago, but it started to go in a direction I didn’t like and as I mentioned, I’m a bit wary anyway, so I stopped contributing. Scooter-Tim, who was also on dA, invited me to join Shadowness.
Greatest obstacle? Very interesting question. Lack of knowledge about photography would have to be an obstacle for me. I know so little it’s scary!
Again thank you for featuring me here on Shadowness. This community has been so welcoming. It could be because it's still such a nice small one but seems to be growing steadily :)
What is your favorite Genre of music or musician(s)?
I've never liked this question because I have found that I just like a majority of different types of music. But if I had to choose a genre I don't enjoy too much it would be Rap. If I were to choose one band that I enjoyed when I was younger it would be Faith no More. Also listen to Japanese music a fair bit :)
How did you find Shadowness?
I heard about it from word of mouth around DeviantArt. Good time for a new art sharing site to appear too. I needed a change, I just want an art community that shares the same passions and to make some friends :)
What is your greatest obstacle?
Hmmmmm, I prefer to think I have no obstacles in my way. If I want to do something I'll go do it. Sometimes it takes hard work to get there but if you have determination you will get there :)
My name is Will Dyer. I do a lot of photograpy for local schools, kindergarten and sport clubs for charity. The less commercial stuff I do is quite boring, mainly photos for catalogs.
[Music]
My favorite gerne of music at the moment is jazz and/or jazz based on klezmer, some classical music, rock, metal and crossover.
Musical keywords: Daniel Zamir, James Carter, System of a Down, Max Richter, Thin Lizzy, Pink Floyd, Brad Mehldau, Pat Metheny, Charles Mingus, Magnus Öström, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Joshua Redman, Steve Reich, Roland Kirk, Dead Kennedys, Thelonious Monk, John Zorn, Kroke, Jenny Scheinman, Clark Terry, Al Di Meola, Art Blakey, Neil Ardley, Jamie Saft, Edvard Grieg, Anat Cohen, Philip Glas, Bester Quartet, Michael Brecker and many more.
But I also try to be open for other genres.
[Shadowness]
I used a search engine to find Shadowness. Quick and easy answer (: I like the quality of the photos and that here are not submitted hundred photos within a minute.
[Obstacles]
There are so many obstacle. Me, myself and I are the biggest obstacle. Time and location is always a problem for me. Most of my photos are done in hurry and the area I live in does not offer great beauty or themes I am interested in, like woods, mountains, seascapes or buildings.
That is all for now...the short version 1.0b. (:
I wish all of you a great weekend !
Hi My turn
My name is Jocelyn and I'm from New Zealand.
I manage Motels and a Holiday Park in a picturesque area where I can spend hours taking photographs. Landscapes, nature, macro, people, still life and some experimental projects
My taste in music does not include heavy metal, hiphop or rap. It includes all the rest depending what mood I'm in. I love easy listening, especially Michael Crawford, Josh Groban,
Susan Boyle, Val Doonican, the Doobie Brothers and the Eagles.
I belong to a lot of online photographic sites including a black and white competition group on Facebook. My friend Debbie set it up and from there she invited me to join Shadowness and here I am.
I enjoy viewing all the images both graphic and photographic. The people are friendly and encouraging. I love the tutorials and the inspirational blogs the leaders compile, so I'll be around for life.
My greatest obstacle is there are only 24hrs in a day I need at least another 4 just so I can sleep for 8 hrs.
I want to photograph in all lights, all subjects, learn all there is to know about Photoshop, HDR images and catalogue every image I have taken so far. I would also like to self publish books of my images to sell. There are never enough hours in a day to do it all. I also need to manage my family's business and make a good living which means the photography always comes second to the job. But when I retire from working in the camp I'm going to buy a motor home and photograph New Zealand from the tip of the North Island to the lower shore of Stewart Island.
So interesting to read about you all ♥
My name is Carin, called Caja and I am staff and the social fairy of the site and I love to bring a smile to other people. The new members might not have seen me as much since I've been busy with university but I will soon be back ♥ and never hesitate to PM me or write on my profile - anything from random talk to a link to a piece of work you want me to see (I always comment). Oh and check out /loveandsupport group where I post feel good art every monday ♥ Want to know more about me? ASK!
What is your favorite Genre of music or musician(s)?
All except opera, jazz and blues. Pop makes me a bit annoyed after a while and my absolute fav is Within Temptation since I love Sharon den Adel's voice.
How did you find Shadowness?
Journal on dA ;D
What is your greatest obstacle?
Myself I think and lack of money unfortunately but that have just thought me to be more creative and to fight more. Nothing is unreachable if you really want to.
Hello everyone, my name is Bouchra, iam 20 years old, i study graphic design, this year is my last year. What i loved about the digital art is defenitly vector art, i just adore adobe illustrator.
My favourite type of music? well mostly i like Rock'n'roll, metal & gothic music, my favourite bands are Theatre of tragedy, Metallica & Evanescence.I also like MJ, i wish he still alive, missing him so bad : (
I found about this amazing site from the vector artist Chwedkandi in her FB page http://www.facebook.com/ChewedKandi. She is an extraordinary vector artist & my idole .
My greatest obstacle? i think maybe it's time, i work slowly & always need so much time to finish my work.
At last i want to thank you for creating this wonderful site, i really love it, DA seems very boring now hehe. SN is my new home :D
p.s. : sorry for my bad english.
Its such a great honor to meet you all! Last week I got schooled on many artists that I did not know, and This week I'm learning about music from all over the world! Awesome! Its great to know you guys. Please feel free to contact me whenever you like!
Jun 13th, 2011It is always amazing to see so many great artists join each week.
What is your favorite Genre of music or musician(s)?
I love variety. I don't love genres, I love particular pieces. I feel the same for art as I do for music. The past year, I've been listening to a lot of rap and hip-hop, because I worked at a school were the students listened to mainly rap and hip-hop, and I like to create lessons they can relate to. I've used the songs they like as guided practice for finding literary and poetic devices, such as allusions, alliteration, and symbolism. I did a lot with TuPac and Nikki Minaj. Before this year, I listened to a lot of oldies and classical songs. My favorite song of all time is Moonlight Sonata. And before that, I was really into foreign songs. I love Ramnstein and K and J pop.
How did you find Shadowness?
in 2004, a friend introduced me. I've been addicted, ever since.
What is your greatest obstacle?
I work slowly. I dream about concepts over months, sometimes, and go through several drafts. I'm my own worst critic, and I'm hardly satisfied. I'm constantly editing. Even after I release a piece, I always want to go back.
Every Friday, we get together and welcome the new members to Shadowness by featuring some artwork from members who've joined in the last week. This is a perfect place for everyone to come together each week and post a mini-bio so that everyone can get to know them. You can do this EVERY WEEK, if you like! It helps keep the community close, and makes certain that noone slips through the cracks.
Each week, we have over 350 new members, so there could easily be 600 comments on each Meet and Greet article! Please, comment on each other's profiles and artworks in a thoughtful and constructive way. Also, please answer the following questions as you tell the Shadowness Community a bit about who you are:
