We're very interested getting artists to network in order to improve their art by learning new techniques and sharing critiques and tutorials. One of the most important ways that we accomplish this is while commenting. Artists love to hear what you like or do not like about their work. Dislikes help them see their artwork in a new light and likes point out their strengths and details that they may not have noticed. Comments such as ‘it’s great!’ are very encouraging, but they don’t inspire learning and growth. As a community; we should act as such and draw on all of our knowledge in order to comment and critique effectively.
Here are some examples of great comments and responses:
Had some good thought and did not find the page where I can submit suggestion for site improvement, but it also fits in here: Wouldn´t it be better to get experience points per written words? Because this would (hopefully) encourage people to write more than just the usual three words;-)
/fantasio, it could be a great idea but it could also lead to word-vomiting. Quality over quantity :) I for one don't have a problem with expressing how an artwork makes me feel using no more than two sentences. It shouldn't mean I'm giving out bad, thoughtless comments.
It -could- be nice to have a comment-rating system, but that could be abused too.
hahaah how true, Katherine! its a nice idea, Fantasio, and we're always working on improving the features on the community...Especially 7Shadows there. He does all the 'work'. And we've honestly brought this up before...how to encourage longer and more detailed comments. I think that the best way is to lead by example. Try to comment with your all and others will follow, then the bar will always be raised a bit, by the community acting on its own best interests. ::)
We had such a feature before and honestly, because of the copy and paste possibility, I don't think it would be the best solution for the current version. We WILL however have a Liking comments system where you gain EXP when people enjoys your comments.
Seriously? you're gunna have a like button? Sweet! haha I remember joking about having a like button, I think that definitely will encourage people, and the more likes you get the more you'll realise you're doing something right :)
Meng - the "like" concept is nice, as long as it doesn't lead to nasty competition. Overall the members here are very mature. I don't think I've ever seen a case of hassling or bad-mouthing. Really love this community :)
