The tags feature on Shadowness is a simple tool used to place your art work in appropriate categories and to allow other users to search for a specific body of work with ease. All the tags have been pre-selected by the SN staff. Currently, you're allowed 5 tags per submission.
How to Tag Appropriately:
The key to tagging is keeping it simple. First of all, determine the Main Category of your work. For example, is it photography, painting, drawing, vector, literature, or 3D? After you establish your Main Category Tag, pick some related tags such as: (but not limited to) Portraits, Waterscape, Animal, Comic, Humor or Fan Art from the drop-down menu. Explore all tags as they are consistently being changed and up-graded.
Bad Examples of Tagging:
Tagging Photo manipulation, painting, drawing, people, portrait, waterscape all in one piece is really unnecessary. My question is, sure, you can have everything in that piece, but which one is predominant? Is it more of a painting than photo manipulation and drawing? Is it just about people, or is it actually a portrait? Is it portrait with water in the background, or is it actually a waterscape, with people included? Please try and keep it precise or the tagging system willbecome cumbersome.
I.E. - Just because you took a photo of your artwork on other medium, e.g.a painting, figures, tattoos, doesn't necessarily mean it should be tagged as photography. See if something else fits better. Are you trying To display your photograph, or the artwork thatÕs in the photo? If you're photographing artisan crafts or other manually created art, perhaps ÔTraditionalÕ is the better tag to use for your Main Category.
Here are Some Helpful Definitions:
Photography - Photographs with minimal post processing.
Traditional - ANYTHING that is made with a traditional process. It could be glass work, metal work, model creation, pencil or charcoal drawing, oil painting, artisan crafts and anything else that is created manually, without the use of computer processing. Be intelligent and be creative.
Shadowness - Anything that is Shadowness related.
Landscape - An expanse of scenery that can be seen in a single view, particularly from a distance.
Waterscape - An aquatic landscape, a view and/or site prominently involving such natural or artificial water features as lakes, streams, ponds and rivers.
Cityscape - The urban equivalent of a landscape—the shape that a city (or one of its parts) presents to the eye, particularly from a distance.
Urban - Related to a (or any) city; characteristic of city life.
People - Anything involving humans, except for portraits, which have their own tag.
Portraits - A portrait is a painting, photograph, sculpture, or other artistic representation of a person, in which the face and its expression is predominant.
Street - This seems to be misleading to everyone. ‘Street’, in terms of photography, is documentary photography that features people in candid situations within public places such as streets, parks, beaches, malls, political conventions, and other settings. If its just a photo of a street, tag it with Urban. The street tag encompasses people being people in public places. Not just the public places by themselves.
Wallpapers - If you would like others to use your work as wallpapers, add the wallpapers tag to any of your artwork. Other Shadowness members will be able to pick different sizes if the original resolution permits.
The main thing is to use common sense when Tagging your art and not just to add tags at random. Have pride in what you create, and display it in the same way. If you are unsure of what tags to apply to a single piece, drop into Shadowness Chat and ask one of the helpful Shadowness Team members. Thanks for reading, and happy tagging!
