Second piece for the ETP, http://www.experiencetheplanets.com/
This one also took over a month of the same process as the other Neptune piece, sketching, planning and painting. All the knowledge I received from Greg Martin during the making was again priceless and amazing, big thanks to Greg for all.
Wallies are over at ETP http://www.experiencetheplanets.com/ In several different resolutions.
Science:
When low pressure combines with weak coriolis forces at the pole of a planet with atmosphere, a downward spiral of air called a polar vortex can appear. While found on other planets in our solar system -Including Earth- this phenomenon takes an unique twist on Venus where polar coriolis forces are almost nonexistent. At the south pole can be found not one, but two vortices intertwined.
This curious structure could one day provide a rare glimpse beneath the clouds of Earth's mysterious twin.

I love the level of detail you've put into the swirls as they make their way through space.

It is an incredible feat that so much depth and detail was conveyed through purely digital means. A powerful piece.
