Nov 29thLowbrow is a widespread populist art movement with origins in the underground comix world, punk music, hot-rod street culture, and other subcultures. Lowbrow art often has a sense of humor - sometimes the humor is gleeful, sometimes impish, and sometimes it is a sarcastic comment. The single most common tactic that Lowbrow artists employ is to poke fun at convention. They know the "rules" of art, and consciously choose not to abide by them. If the test of time for legitimacy (as an artistic movement) means that Lowbrow speaks/spoke, in visual terms, to the millions of us who share a common cultural, symbolic language - albeit a "lower" or "middle" class, media-driven language - then, yes, Lowbrow is here to stay. Anthropologists will probably study Lowbrow in the future, to attempt to figure out late 20th and early 21st century U.S. societal influences.
May 18th, 2012Welcome to my Shadowness profile! First thing you should know is I will fav and run! I don't always have a comment -- but by fav'ing your work, I'm clearly stating that I love it. :D Secondly, Yes I did consider putting a bunch of gobbledygook here about who I am, what my inspirations are, my mediums, my shows and my awards -- Wouldn't it just be easier and less irritating to visit my website instead? I've got a lot more work there, plenty of information about me and mine, as well as information about how you can own some. :)
Sep 25th, 2011I'm a self taught illustrator from the Philippines. My artworks usually focus on women with very long hair surrounded by flowers and vines. Other artworks depend on what I feel or what I have experienced. I do traditional and digital illustrations. I usually listen to music while I draw something because for me it helps a lot when I'm making details to my drawings. My dream is to become a childrens book illustrator. As of today, I'm still trying to find and learn more techniques in drawing to improve my illustrations. =) You can also find me here: Tumblr: http://nikkiradan.tumblr.com/ Behance: http://www.behance.net/nikkiradan
