Addam! what a fantastic story! the barrel, envious of the trees still in their natural form, wishes it had to freedom to feel as they feel, growing and nurturing one another side by side. But he is stuck in his barrel form forever, no more changing, evolving, bending, or swaying.
i'm blown away by this even still...so glad you decided to share it here, sweetie.
the blur is from the wide aperature..believe it was f/2.0 on this one. can practice by selecting "A" mode on your camera and going to the lowest number possible..looks like it will be 4.5 or 5 on your lens, which seems to be what youve been shooting your flower shots with, the farther the background object is, the more blurred out it will be :]
would highly suggest into looking into a 50mm prime..has a nice wide aperature and produces really crisp shots..at a pretty reasonable price!
...and adding to what Addam said, the 50mm prime is what he and i use for our flower shots, which you'd really make good use of! it would also be fabulous for shooting your jewelry.

Nice one Addam! I like how the barrel is in focus on the left side but the right is blurry. I don't know how to do that:(

thanks for the help guys!!

The lens we're talking about only goes for about $120. like he said, very affordable!

my pleasure! can always ask away if you have any questions
May 10th, 2012 Replyshackledfae
I will, be prepared! ;)
May 10th, 2012 Replyshackledfae
And I think the lens would still be a X-mas gift. I tend to be more than reluctant to spend on things that aren't 100% necessary :(
