though i hear the calls of owls frequently, this was my first sight of one outside of a bird sanctuary! though its surroundings where not the most ideal for photos, was such an amazing sight :]

Badass shot. I have a shot of one of these. I was 6 feet away and that thing wanted to eat me.
Jul 13th Replydittto
thanks, Jerrod :) was about 10 feet away here..but directly under it, but yeah, had a fear that it would just fly at me to claw my eyes out!
Jul 13th Replycrashandburn12
I think that was the day I barrowed a digital and a Nikon 85 1.4 and it misted-fogged. I have the shots some place....
Jul 13th ReplyLAlight
So glad you chose this one to post! I think it was the most striking of the three. :] Have to say I'm incredible jealous of this shot, but couldn't think of someone else I'd rather be jealous of in this case. ;) Captured the intensity of this beautiful creature's stare so perfectly..feel like it's staring at me! Just so floored by this shot, sweetie...much to be proud of.
Jul 6th Replydittto
teehee..nothing to be jealous of except for luck! can definitely say i need lots more practice at capturing wildlife..found much inspiration in this gallery on dA..think its LAlight or something like that.. ;)
Jul 6th Replyvery appreciative of the kind words, sweetie!!
LAlight
Oh shoosh...no wildlife in there lately! Think they're all hiding from the heat wave. Speaking of which, I have a bone to pick with those PNW critters..they hide whenever I get the camera out!
Jul 6th ReplyVery welcome hon...as always.

this is fantastic!!! i saw it only in ZOO :D how did you get so close to him? flew like a bird.... XD its awesome pic! and B&W makes it unique! i wish i could edit to B&W too but i always leave it in color :D i think i dont have the right "feeling" for B&W pics :))
Jul 3rd Reply who wants a hug?dittto
thanks, Lucie!!

Jul 3rd Replyhehe..yep, was the same day as the windy grass shot, got blown right up into the tree with him..must of thought i was a bird and didnt fly away
was actually surprised how close i got to him without him flying away, was pretty much directly below, was zoomed all the way in though :D
i use silverFX to process in b&w and must say its really beneficial to create the feeling i want to portray in b&w. have practiced for many years without silverFX and just couldnt get any results i was pleased with. though i remember your portrait that was done in b&w and the processing was fabulous on it. would love to see more b&w from you
thanks again, Lucie!!
Lucifer
hahahaha :D hahahahahaha :DD hope the bubo was at least female XD yes its only one i can edit to B&W ...some of my portraits :D i have in my head some new idea how to take pic of me and make it B&W :D but i must get some free time first. i am going to my parents for 4 days so i dont think i can take pics like that there XD will have to run after insects or something like this in my grandmas garden :D alyways my pleasure. Addam :)

hehe..was hard to tell..it was covering up it's private parts ;)
yay..would be very awkward doing pics like that around your parents! hope you have a great time!
Jul 5th ReplyLucifer
hahahahaha bubo was smarter than i thought :D well yes it would be very awkward (and see? i know what this word means :p XD) but neighbors would have second Christmas XD i had amazing time there :D with barbecue and swimming in the pool.... was super :D hope you had nice week too :) wish you lovely weekend!
Jul 7th Reply who wants a hug?dittto
woot for BBQ and swimming! hopefully gizmo didnt go swimming ;)
Jul 9th Replyweek and weekend was fantastic! lots and lots of pictures with my new camera :D
Lucifer
:O do you have new camera? and what type?
Jul 9th Reply who wants a hug?dittto
i do! :D said in the other reply..but its the Sony A65..so excited to put it to use!!
Jul 9th ReplyLucifer
Sony? and do you think its good camera? :p XD
Jul 9th Reply who wants a hug?dittto
yep yep..Sony! have used them for years now. never was into the Nikons and Canons that are similar are too expensive for me!
Jul 9th Replyi think its a good camera..is getting good reviews as well :D
Lucifer
i wanted to know your opinion because you are not only one who told me that Sony is very good canera. you are right canon is very expensive....for me too. i had to buy it for installments but its something i will have for whole my life and i think i am in love with "canon" no matter if its camera or another thing :D :)
Jul 9th Reply who wants a hug?dittto
i would say that sony is very comparable to its competitor..exceeding them in some areas even! and not only are the bodies less expensive..but lens usually are too for some reason :] very glad to hear you are not a nikon girl though
Jul 9th Replybut in the end..is all about how you use the camera and not what camera it is
Lucifer
yes i agree you can have the best camera on this world but if you can not use it well and dont have the right feeling and skills how to take pic then nothing will help you. its not the camera that makes pics...its you and your heart. i love to express myself in my pics and my pics have inside all my dreams and wishes but well on the other hand i must thank camera i could use it as my tool to express myself :D

Wow, that looks awesome! I love that the eyes are the only part with color. ^_^

what a most spectacular capture Addam.... yes. owls are escaping civilisation.... what a very special moment.....did you notice the owl by accident or was it planed to maybe find the owl ? for me... its a beautiful capture... as in some way it shows the closeness of the owl to its environment.... :-))
Jul 3rd Replydittto
aww..thanks, barbara! it was quite a spectacular sight :] was somewhat planned..this is in the area of all the derelicts that ive posted, my dad was there a few weeks prior and got this great shot of the owl http://trunna.deviantart.com/art/Great-Horned-Owl-304559992
he was in the barn across the field from the house and tree where i captured him..and when my dad started looking into the barn gave him a startle as he came flying out and not so gracefully landing in the tree! there were also two of them and am not sure if it is the same as my dad captured..will hopefully see him again and captured him with a less distracting background..though i do agree, does show his environment nicely :) thanks again, Barbara..truly appreciated
Jul 3rd Replyso basically going to take pictures of the buildings and only hoping to see the owl..the hope came true
barfischer
what a vibrant adventure..... never forgetting..... silent miracles.... thank you so much for the link... also an awesome capture of your dad... (so wonderful son and dad have the same interests).. i am a little (hmm... a lot...) jealous of your environment.... pure nature in such dimensions..... here it is so urban... civilisation wherever you are in our little country... that's why my longing for solitude..... we will be soon on Isle of Skye...Scotland... for a holiday..... it will be a little solitude and nature..once again....
again !
Jul 4th Replythe feathering of the owl wonderfully flows into the beautiful texture of the birch tree... and the bokeh of the back ground is fantastic to the plumage of the owl.... !!
congratulation to the DI .... absolutely deserved !!
dittto
feel very blessed to have grown up and be surrounded by all this beauty and to have a parent that shares that feeling! though it wasnt until a few years ago the later came true! think that made the connection stronger however :]

Jul 5th Replyooo..would love to see Scotland! hope you have an amazing time and look forward to the many fantastic pictures to come!
thank you again, Barbara!
barfischer
to share the same interests with the parents is wonderful !!
Jul 6th Replyohh, and by the way... son's girlfriend came back... she visited the Olympic N.P .... she said there are many waterfalls.... she loved a lot being there !!!
i hope there wont be too much fog in Scotland.... :-))))
dittto
oh yes..the olympic np park is full of waterfalls! many are seasonal runoffs that will be gone in the next few weeks however. so glad she had a great time..makes me eager to get back over there soon! hope to hear equal joy for your trip to Scotland
