from the deep mining and coke production starting in the late 1800s to the surface mining in the 1960s and 70s..the blackwater river watershed suffered major environmental degradation. the rocks stained orange from the acidic metals..the green water not that of alpine waters but that of limestone slurry to help cure the waters. the mixture of history, beauty and the sight of restoration in process..just made this my favorite place i saw while in WV..thanks LA for showing me this magical place! :]

the industrial revolution changed nature and human.... i saw several old mining places in the UK..... i brought green stones at home.... green by the copper..... marks of history.... and yet, in the poor continents work goes on.... people often working with very bad and poor conditions..... for our wealth.......
Oct 4th Replyyour capture is so so fascinating....
as the b&w capture.... a wonderful angle... and here the orange stones mark the former busy times mining metal...... thank you so much for sharing this work dear.

the feeling of the hardships really filled the air at this area, the hard labor, the foul conditions..the torment even..really motivated me to capture the beauty this area has :)
