Aug 4thLowbrow is a widespread populist art movement with origins in the underground comix world, punk music, hot-rod street culture, and other subcultures. Lowbrow art often has a sense of humor - sometimes the humor is gleeful, sometimes impish, and sometimes it is a sarcastic comment. The single most common tactic that Lowbrow artists employ is to poke fun at convention. They know the "rules" of art, and consciously choose not to abide by them. If the test of time for legitimacy (as an artistic movement) means that Lowbrow speaks/spoke, in visual terms, to the millions of us who share a common cultural, symbolic language - albeit a "lower" or "middle" class, media-driven language - then, yes, Lowbrow is here to stay. Anthropologists will probably study Lowbrow in the future, to attempt to figure out late 20th and early 21st century U.S. societal influences.

May 6th, 2011Hello I'm Newman, I live in Oregon, I have been a freelance tee shirt designer for four years now. I have a BFA in Fine Art from the University of Hawaii where I studied Polynesian art history. I love travel, and culture, and cheesecakes. I would like to thank the mods, staff, and most of all the members for making shadowness what it is. You make this a great community. May 17th, 2007I am a very friendly person I just want to talk to people find out new stuff about computers maybe find some cool pictures as backgrounds. I am usually the kind of person that wants to help people that are in pain, physical and emotional. If you wanna talk to me about anything just let me know I have no life beyond making people feel good about themselvs or at least feel better. Well I remain one of the most senior artists on Shadowness having been with the site pretty much since its birth, from starting out small to growing bigger everyday. I have met loads of fantastic people on here and continue to do so on a daily basis, if you wish to become a friend just add me its that simple :) I hail from the UK where its very wet at the moment but that doesn't change much, I'm 27 and a Senior Designer for a Web Design and Development firm in the Midlands. At the moment my duties on Shadowness is to run a few groups the more popular ones are /photomaniacs for the photographers of shadowness and I also help run the /monkey clan :monkey If you should have any questions for me or about Shadowness in general please do ask them and ill be happy to answer them for you.
