i know that this was on oekaki, and so you aren't allowed all the freedom and tools available on photoshop, but regardless of these limitations, there are several flaws with this piece. one think i noticed is that the image looks really flat, even despite the lighting and shadows. one major reason for this is in the outlining. rather than outlining each layer of the outfit separately (the collared shirt, then the collar of the collared shirt and the bottom of the tie, then the knot of the tie, and the main par of the vest, then the collar of the vest) it looks as though you just outlined the entire figure of the person, and didn't go back to distinguish these separate layers. this is especially problematic on the right side of the painting, where there is almost no differentiation between the collar and vest. the lower layer should have a lower outline than the collar, and the shadows should be either deeper, grayer, more distinguished in some way or another.
another issue with this piece is in line variation. there is a lack of consistancy in line width, and pressure, nor a reason for why the line is varied. the lines overlap, and become thin at the jaw, they become oddly blurry at some points without being effected by a change in contour or ligh, and the lines are oddly bold where it seems it should be thinned out. for exaple, the line of the forehead seems too thick, the lines at the bridge of the nose get too sharp too suddenly, and there doesn't seem enough deepening in the color of the lines, such as the lines located in shadows, like the lines at the collar of the dress shirt.
another issue can be seen in the lack of depth. this is especially prevalent i the hair. the hair seems to be consistant in texture and detail level throughout, even though the hair curves back with the head.
