Nov 25thLowbrow is a widespread populist art movement with origins in the underground comix world, punk music, hot-rod street culture, and other subcultures. Lowbrow art often has a sense of humor - sometimes the humor is gleeful, sometimes impish, and sometimes it is a sarcastic comment. The single most common tactic that Lowbrow artists employ is to poke fun at convention. They know the "rules" of art, and consciously choose not to abide by them. If the test of time for legitimacy (as an artistic movement) means that Lowbrow speaks/spoke, in visual terms, to the millions of us who share a common cultural, symbolic language - albeit a "lower" or "middle" class, media-driven language - then, yes, Lowbrow is here to stay. Anthropologists will probably study Lowbrow in the future, to attempt to figure out late 20th and early 21st century U.S. societal influences.

Feb 25th, 2012I'm a self taught illustrator from the Philippines. My artworks usually focus on women with very long hair surrounded by flowers and vines. Other artworks depend on what I feel or what I have experienced. I do traditional and digital illustrations. I usually listen to music while I draw something because for me it helps a lot when I'm making details to my drawings. My dream is to become a childrens book illustrator. I see the world in frames, as long as I can remember I have taken snap shots of everything I see. Photography to me is very important; it is how we can document the events of our lives. Things are always changing. I biggest obstacle is making sure my camera is always ready. One of my photography teachers told me to take a picture a day. I think this is very good advice and something I feel is important for me. It is a form of therapy, relaxation and peace. Today with the modern world of digital it is so easy to snap away without taking the time we once had to. With digital photography you see your images right away. I think that it is easy to forget to take that extra time to get the photograph you really want because you can take so many.
