Rapunzel v.2

This painting has a long story behind it.
I decided to do a picture featuring Rapunzel after seeing this gorgeous painting of Rapunzel
from Bryan “Beaux” Beus. Of course I wanted to do something different and, hopefully, as gorgeous as the other :)
After thinking a while how to do the picture and remembering rapunzel's story I decided that it would be fun if I did Rapunzel with short hair after her braids had been cutted, instead of doing a tradicional portrait of long hair rapunzel.
I tried to give a dramatic feeling to the picture, trying to transmit rapunzel's feelings of sadness. So I made the picture dark with the ligth coming from just one point, the window of her tower. Finally I decided to have blue colours in the picture so her blonde yellow hair could contrast.
I had lots of fun doing this picture.
I'm also happy that few reference was used to draw her body, except for her haircut. I also did the colouring with few references, just in the face, neck, hands and her shirt. ;)

Done in Photoshop 7.0 with NGS pen.

    Rapunzel, Rapunzel so lasse doch Dein Haar hinunter... und wenn sie nicht gestorben sind, so leben sie noch heute..... back in the days.... i had the story on a mc, i think it was kind of cruel ;)

    maybe she could look down, that would more express the hopeless situation....

    hehe, i know i cant. draw like this, but the feet, just make the skirt longer ;)

    i always thought rapunzel should cut her hair, finally someone did it. i like the sadness in her eyes. how did she cut her hair? a knife or scissors? i would have put a pair of scissors on the floor or a knife, just to tell the story better. i love the colors and the textures you used too. the emoton in this peice is fantastic that i feel sorry for her.

      Thank you very much for your great comment pix, I really aprreciate it :) Glad you think she should cut her hair. Your suggestion about putting a pair of scissors is great and in fact, I actually though about that when sketching the picture, but I though in the end to remove it :P but you're rigth that it would make the storytelling in the picture quite better.
      I'm glad you liked the colours, I gave much attention to them to create the rigth mood so it's good to hear that.
