CATC - Rendering Techniques

by akiko in Traditional Pieces

Another college assignment, but I think it's good to put stuff like this up here, because it's what is forming the foundations for the artwork I have coming.

I'm finding more and more that I'm becoming tired of creating art pieces on the computer, and I'm sure it's entirely thanks to my college course. aha

This one was an exercise with the same image, different rendering techniques. So from the left: original (a birthday present from my mum, it's a beautiful keyring charm), lead pencil, copic marker, ink and finally fineliner pen.

I can't pick a favourite, but that fineliner pen and the ink are tied for first. lol I was fighting with the copic markers the entire time - it was raining that weekend and the moisture in the paper was making my life miserable. I really think there's an art to using them well though, so more practice is needed. The ink felt a lot like watercolours, so I was so glad when I caught onto that. XD

So what's your favourite?

They're adorable! That said, the last one is my favourite: it has more dimension and details than the others.

My work scanner did me no favours as far as actually showing how these really looked -_- I think I upped the levels quite a bit on that last one compared to the others, as well. lol But I agree, there was definitely more detail put into that end one - I think too because stippling is so second-nature to me now. I can do it without thinking and it actually turns out ok! XD
