Experiment

by Yorkie in Space

This is an experiment in working with this style of space scape and also this kind of lighting from a lens flair. It's still not quite finished but starting to get there, but i would still like a few more thoughts and feelings before i start to finish this piece.
any crits and advice would be greatly appreciated

Crit. I think the lens flare could be cleaned up a bit more, mainly the spot of yellow on the planet. Starscape looks efficient. I think you could spend a lot more time on it to flesh it out. I think the main thing it is lacking is larger stars. .............

wow lost my train of thought. il come back to this after you reply.

kk, cheers dude, and yeah, this is my first attempt at this kind of lens flare, and i know that a work still needs to be done, i want to do more to the star scape but i am unsure what, how do u do yours, as yours looks alot more cloudy and nebula like?

      and thanks dude

I find a lot of cloud textures and paint them together...it takes a long time and in my progression in my portfolio I like went from stars to gas clouds gradually. What I meant with your starscape is that right now all the stars are the same size. Some need to be thicker and smaller and clustered more rather than a flat scape. You can take pieces of cloud textures and paint them into the background...usually clouds are made of stars so no stars actually show but the cloud itself....hope these tips help. Planet needs a larger higher resolution texture as well.

Seen my most recently uploaded 3? Viberance is like...one of my favorites.

Looks a LOT better. Planet looks a tad bit flat still and starscape needs blurring in the clouds...it looks like you used a super pixelly texture and didnt go with gaussian blurring the stars as much as its needed. Other than that, it looks great.

i didn't use a texture for the stars, i only used one for the planet, and i might try blurring the stars in a sec. I see what you mean with the planet looking flat, it's probs the surface that i used didn't have much variety in tone/shading and the amount of shadow on the dark side would also hide most of the shape as well. cheers for the comment dude

No the problem with the flatness isnt the shadow its the texture...the stripes and streaks don't seem to wrap around the sphere they seem to just be on there flat from side to side.
