Here are a couple model edits I am currently working on for a machinima project.
The top shows an edit of Tristfall Glades. As you can see, I replaced all the "run down" textures with the textures of the newer buildings. I changed the tress to the tress found near Silvermoon... but I may change those back to pine tress(which i had originally used) or the trees found in Elwynn Forrest. I also added contrast to all the textures before swapping them.
At the bottom, you can see a very minor edit I did of Teldrassil. I always found it to be a beautiful area, however, I didn't feel there was enough color contrast (especially compared to areas such as Nagrand). I edited all of the textures in Photoshop so that they all have a bit more contrast. I also did minor texture changes to the wood of the buildings. I made the "fog" a bit darker (with hex editing) and (for fun) I turned all rabbits into dragons. I also added a light "snow" effect... I think it looks nice. There is still much I want to change, and when I am finished I will upload new screenshots.
As always, I don't not condone the use of ANY model edits on a WoW live server. All my edits are done and used on a private server I created purely for Machinima Film purposes.

That was actually one of the first major edits I've ever done. It was Barrens -> Emerald Dream. I scrapped it long ago though. I was thinking of revisiting it though. If I do, I'll most likely combine it with elements from both Zangarmarsh and EPL.

Also, The Blood elf starting area is the Best IMO.

Yeah it's great. You level up really nice in the ghostlands nearby as well. Very fast leveling and very nice gear for those levels.

private servers allow you to edit the worlds textures?
Jul 26th, 2007 ReplyWGSXFrank
No, it is all client side. The edits are actually done by editing the contents of the .MPQ files found in the World of Warcraft/Data directory of your game client.
Jul 26th, 2007 ReplyIt is possible to use these edits on an official server, but it was against the TOS and it is easy to exploit using edited models (by doing things such as removing doors or walls or changing models in WSG to run on a bridge through the air so noone can get you, etc). I don't condone the use of any edits, even harmless ones, on an official server for that reason. It is also a bannable offense to use edits on official anyways.

if you're looking for information on how to edit models and textures, I could tell you about it in a chat or closed environment. Not on a public site though... the risk of people exploiting it is too high anymore :/
