I usually never explain my paintings, I like them to be bit ambiguous to the person's perspective that's viewing but I feel liking giving one for this. Probably about the time I graduated, I found some sort of spirituality through Art and my surroundings. The only way I can explain it is being in the present moment. Have you ever noticed how the leaves move? Yeah I'm sure you've seen the leaves flutter in the wind, but did you really take it in? Were you there in that present moment, actually appreciating what you saw. Life is a lot more beautiful when you appreciate what's around you. This painting is about being the present moment. Next time you see a bird, take a moment and watch it fly because it might awaken something inside of you. Something instinctive and spiritual. Enlightenment through nature. I chose 3 birds and 3 eggs because the number 3 is symbol of divinity. The birds represent the mind, body, and soul and the eggs represent a new beginning. The nest is supposed to be a crown or wreath of sorts, to represent an achievement of enlightenment. My mom and dad had a mother figure in their life named Gabby. She died before I ever got to meet her. When she died it was on a crescent moon, and when I was little when ever we saw one my mom would say "Look Alex, it's Gabby's moon" and I would look up and say "Hi Gabby!". So whenever I see one I think of my mom telling me to look up, which reminds me of my painting. I named the women in my painting Gabrielle after her, which ironically means "Women of God". To give the back story on the picture, my friend's mother's Aunt is in the hospital with cancer. I drew this picture for her mother's birthday as something to always hold on too. The watch was in the picture but it turned into a representation of sparse time. Who knows how long you have with your loved ones. The time on the watch is the birth of the Aunt also.
