The mailbox is one my son ran over years ago and I thought it was pretty so painted it for my cardinals to perch on. I named it "Fist Song" because their sweet whistles are one of the first sounds of the morning. It is known by many other names, which may refer to the appearance, call, habitat or the eerie, silent flight: White Owl, Silver Owl, Demon Owl, Ghost Owl, Death Owl, Night Owl, Rat Owl, Church Owl, Cave Owl, Stone Owl, Monkey-faced Owl, Hissing Owl, Hobgoblin or Hobby Owl, Dobby Owl,White Breasted Owl, Golden Owl, Scritch Owl, Screech Owl, Straw Owl, Barnyard Owl and Delicate Owl. Owls are one of the oldest species of vertebrate animal in existence, fossils have been found dating back 60 million years, showing the bird to have changed very little in that time. Throughout the history of mankind, the owl has featured significantly in mythology & folklore. Owls are one of the few birds that have been found in prehistoric cave paintings. Owls have been both revered & feared throughout many civilisations from ancient to more recent times. These birds fly over our home all the time. I had one fly above my head this summer that was so low it made my hair move! Mon, 05 Dec 2011 22:02:55 -0500 Jeremiah's Light
Today is my son Jeremiah's birthday and this is his gift. (In case you don't know, he is my son that passed away almost 3 years ago.) I miss him very much! We will send "Notes to heaven" today also, that's where we write notes on balloons and then let them go. I named it "Jeremiah's Light" because the name "lynx" originated from the Greek word "λύγξ", meaning "light, brightness", in reference to the luminescence of its reflective eyes. When Jeremiah was young he seen a show about Lynx and they were talking about how big their feet are. He said "Look mom they are clown cats because they have huge feet like me." (He wore a size 15 shoe) So they were his favorite big cat. The lynx is a medium-sized cat characterized by its long ear tufts and short (bobbed) tail with a black tip. It has unusually large paws that act as snow shoes in very deep snow and its thick fur and long legs make it appear larger than it really is. Under the Endangered Species Act (ESA), the lynx is listed as threatened. Yet he is rocking himself to sleep without caring for tomorrow's lodging, calmly clinging to his little twig, and leaving God to think for him." ~Martin Luther I love chickadee's. We have them here where I live and they are energetic little acrobats. They come to my bird feeders all the time. I love to watch them. I've drawn them many times. If you sit real still they will come close to you. I had them sit on my drawing pad last summer while I drew them. They were being my feathered models. The wisteria is what mine will look like if it EVER gets flowers. ~This is a very old painting. Wed, 01 Jun 2011 00:35:58 -0400 Magic Of Reading
I love to read. It takes me to places that I would never get to see. I get to visit new time periods. Meet people I could never otherwise meet. And see magical creatures. I can fight with pirates, or save a king. I can fly on a dragon, or talk to a fairy. Books can make you cry, laugh or tickle your imagination. Books ARE magic. Thats what I thought of while painting this piece. I took great pleasure in thinking of the countless hours I've spent reading wonderful books. I tried to show the books coming alive for the little girl, I hope it looks like it. This painting just flowed from my mind. I loved every minute! *Credits: The adorable little girl I used for reference is Anna (Thank you for the inspiration sweetheart:hug:) from astrals-stock and can be found here: Tue, 31 May 2011 01:20:07 -0400 The Holiday Serenade
I did this one last Christmas. Tue, 31 May 2011 01:13:44 -0400 Jurgens Pod
I had painted the ocean cut scene months ago as part of an ocean animal series I was going to do but hadn't finished. (Yeah I know big shock!) Anyway I promised my friend JurgenDoe that I would finish the series. I may not do them all but wanted to at least get one more done for him. I painted dolphins for him because they are caring wonderful mammals. So this ones for you snugglebug!(((Hug))) Dolphins are highly intelligent marine mammals and are part of the family of toothed whales that includes orcas and pilot whales. Dolphins are social, living in pods of up to a dozen individuals. Dolphins can establish strong social bonds; they will stay with injured or ill individuals, even helping them to breathe by bringing them to the surface if needed. This unselfish concern does not appear to be limited to their own species however. The dolphin Moko in New Zealand was observed guiding a female Pygmy Sperm Whale together with her calf out of shallow water where they had stranded several times. They have also been seen protecting swimmers from sharks by swimming circles around the swimmers or charging the sharks to make them go away. Did You Know? To prevent drowning while sleeping only half of the dolphin’s brain goes to sleep while the other half remains awake so they can continue to breathe And that Like bats, dolphins use echolocation to navigate and hunt, bouncing high-pitched sounds off of objects, and listening for the echoes. ~ If you would like to hear dolphins talk you can here.... Not the best but still one of my favorites. Sat, 07 May 2011 00:23:39 -0400 Macaws
I did this drawing a few years ago with Rembrandt colored pencils. It's a pair of Macaws that my mom and dad owned. It took about two hours to draw. Sat, 07 May 2011 00:19:29 -0400
