Wow nice! All I get when I try to photograph the moon is a yellowish blurr!

Lol. Big lens and sturdy tripod required.

Wow! I have an EOS350D and it makes the moon look like a dot in the sky, a blurred one at that, when I bought the camera I didn't realise it would come with such an inferior lens as standard, and the better lenses are as much if not more than the camera body! live and learn eh? haha, lovely shot my friend

It's an expensive game once you're hooked. I quickly replaced my kit lenses and my images were instantly transformed. That said if I was to get the lenses I would really like to be using I'd need to spend 15-20 grand. It's not going to happen unless I can make the photography pay for itself in a big way.

For this shot I used a 500mm mirror lens and a very sturdy tripod. I set the light meter to spot mode, camera set to manual, under exposed by about half a stop. I also used the mirror lock up function and a cable release to eliminate vibration and camera shake.
Aug 5th, 2011 ReplyThe moon is actually very bright so you must take your light reading directly from it in spot or centre weighted mode or it will massively over exposed. If you look at the exposure values for this shot in the exif data you'll see what I mean.

Awesome! Kinda common subject, but this is great, because it´s in good quality and not just small dot in black background, if you know what I mean. :D
