As you set out for Ithaka
hope the voyage is a long one,
full of adventure, full of discovery.
Laistrygonians and Cyclops,
angry Poseidon—don’t be afraid of them:
you’ll never find things like that on your way
as long as you keep your thoughts raised high,
as long as a rare excitement
stirs your spirit and your body.

That first stanza made my heart ache instantly, like from a beam of microwave. It's very romantic, the kind that persists even when illusion after illusion has been long swept away from the cold reality of experience. Wonderful.

Ithaca, always far, still unreachable,
Apr 16th, 2011 Replylucky the ones who know its existence,
lucky the ones who seek for Ithaca
in every step they take.

I will be a happy woman when Cavafy's words roll off my tongue in Greek. You must promise not to laugh.

Only if you promise not to laugh when you hear me speak English! :))
