Something of a dying art this in the UK. Such a shame really.
This was taken today at Wollaton Hall Museum.
Shot using only the ambient light in the building.

Yes I know. I don't have a problem with getting the shots but I still struggling with the post production. Slowly getting there though ;)

A great shot. It is a dying art but there is hope as I know two trainee farriers who will probably end up using pre-cast blanks later in life, but who still have to learn to make everything from scratch to pass their exams. It is such fun to watch sometimes.

Thanks.
Sep 26th, 2011 ReplyI was lucky as a lad as they still did this at school but that's all gone now. I agree, it can be amazing to see.

He showed me a knife he'd made from a single piece of steal beaten and folded over 70 times. The patten it produced looked like it was made of wood with all the lairs. Amazing.

That sounds amazing! There are still a few craftsman kicking around Japan but it is pretty much a dead art here too. Especially sad since this was such a big sword culture for most of its history. :(
