Awed by their beauty, the Bakunawa would rise from the ocean and devour the moons. What it really is: The Bakunawa is actually an appendage of a giant octopus-like creature whose head resembles the surface of the moon. Six of its eight limbs have already swallowed six of the seven moons created by Bathala. After devouring a moon, the appendage referred to as Bakunawa goes into pupal stage and loses its function as limbs. Once the remaining moon is eaten, it is a mystery what the remaining limb is for. To function normally, Amanikable uses his other senses which are enhanced to a great degree. In order TO PROTECT THE PEOPLE LIVING IN A COASTAL TOWN, Amanikable uses a magical wooden staff to control the rage of the sea. He also uses it to help himself walk on land. =)) The story goes that after being rejected by a woman named Maganda, Amanikable swore vengeance against the humans by sending destructive waves and storms. What really happened: Amanikable's little brother was taken by a group of fishermen. Their leader was a cripple named Miranda. She demanded from Amanikable one thing. Without companions, Amanikable should go to land and meet her and turn her into a "creature of the sea". Else, she would kill Amanikable's brother. Amanikable left his kingdom without his royal guard. With the aid of his magical staff, Amanikable was able to go the meeting place. There, Miranda was surrounded by her officers and upon meeting her, Amanikable felt and understood why the woman wanted to be a creature of the sea. Amanikable chose his words carefully. He explained that he could not do what Miranda wanted. To appease Miranda, he tapped his staff to the ground and a treasure chest appeared before him. For a second, Miranda looked pleased. The next moment, her subordinates ganged up on Amanikable. Amanikable's staff was taken, and the officers brought him to a cliff where his brother lay sprawled to the ground. Miranda and her gang miscalculated something: Amanikable was not powerless without his magical staff. The fight was against fifteen men though. Amanikable's priority was to save his brother. He channeled his remaining powers in order to transport his brother and himself towards the sea. The transport worked. But the staff was forever gone from Amanikable. Miranda used the staff to make herself a creature of the sea. The staff did nothing. Soon after, severe storms continuously pummeled the coastal town. Every one thought something must have angered the sea god. Miranda guiltily admitted this was Amanikable's revenge. But it was not. If we can't comprehend the plan at hand, how could a higher plan make any more sense? But were I to believe in martyrdom, I suppose I'd say you can only be a martyr if you know what you are dying for, and choose it. ~Elphaba Wed, 30 Apr 2014 23:09:42 -0400
