  I used the same steps and in my tutorial, But to answer your question better, At the top of illustrator there is a recolor artwork button that looks like a small color wheel, click that top open up the options. From there you can use color groups, and randomly color the artwork to quickly cycle though a lot of color harmonies and options till you see a combo you like.
