i'd say about 5-10 depending on how many elements are involved in the painting. i usually merge them together pretty fast to avoid confusion though =P
Aug 2nd, 2007Around 20-25 all named and stacked proper....................
Aug 18th, 2007I usually try to keep it so I don't have to scroll through them, I used to use a lot more, but these days I try to keep it to a minimum (although that can be difficult!). In my most recent piece I have 6 (although I did recently merge some).
Feb 27th Magical Ocean SnakeDepends, if we want to create a photo manipulation or the like, sometimes I just use 5 to 10 layers. But if you want to create a digital image or the like, can exceed 10 layers. Essentially, 10 to the upper layer that is enough.
Apr 2ndI usually need 30-40 Layers while working on a Photomanipulation!
Apr 6thdepending on the project 50-100 or even more. :D some of my psd files easily reach 500-700mb in size. but that's mostly due to high resolution/print size work.
Apr 14th6 or 7 for a simple fixup, reaches 15 really quick if i'm doing some more though.
May 1stPhotomanipulation ~ 1,000 - 2,500
PrintDesign ~ 100 - 1,500
Webdesign ~ 50 - 500
Photography ~ 1 - 25
vector- 50-250 <max>
May 1stI don't work in layers any more. When I did graphics and photo manipulation I used between 3 and 60 layers, depending on how complicated the image was.
May 12thI need 9-20 Layers while working on a Photoedit ..:(

Aug 26thDepends on how many colours and/or elements are in the piece. I usually have one for the base colours and one for shades grouped over top of it at least, so usually about 50, but that number can jump around drastically depending.
Aug 26th50 at least.
Aug 26th100 - 150 I tend to merge as I work anyway.
Aug 26thFor photos, usually 5–10. For digital art, anywhere from 10 to 80, sometimes more. I group layers a lot though.
Aug 27thMin 60 layers :) It depends on what I do.
Nov 12thno more than 50 layers ;p
