End of an Era?

by Novid in The Invaild Manufesto

Time to say these things. Been holding it tight in this mind for a while.

I started a while back wondering if a comeback was available.
But then i realise i have to take things into consideration.
It looks like that I would not continue gaming past June 2008-
sticking to eather or both of the DS/PSP (PSP heavy mind you)

When i was 13 years old, the Gensis was pretty much on its last legs
The Saturn was the next big step. It came out- did well...but at first
i was apprhensive about Sony. Later found out that Sega was screwing up
left and right. Nobody knew what was going on...

Sony came as a Breath of Fresh air. Compared to Ninty and Sega,
Sony came in a knight who saw something was stinking in the Videogame world.
I was dealing with PC's before the first major Crash Happened.

Sony had to carry what ever what was left from the PC world and those Sick of Ninty
and Hoping that Sega was going to comeback.

From MGS, to Xenogears- everything felt right. Expancive, Whisleblowing.

But now im 25 years old, and things dont smell right again.

Sony has now PS3, with the same promise, and more amazing things you can shake
a stick at. There PSP is still the best Handeld device (yes, that includes the Iphone, even
though the Iphone is a wonderful piece of tech) ever made. The PS2 is the greatest system
since the Gensis.

But is Ninty, the old money, porno hounds- with the Wii and a bit of Geisha Music that
has intranced Japan, and the States.

With 250 bucks, Ninty stated they wernt going to compeate with Sony nor MS.
However, they way they went through it? Horrible. Still stuck in my mind why
they would a Childish portmanteu for a mans privites to name a consle.

I realized today. Sex sells, and Hidden Sex sells even more.

Dont Get me Started on Doki Doki Heart Witch.

Sony has stated Firesale for the 60gig Model. a new 80GIG model will come by chrismas.
In turn, the EE will be gone for good, bring down the 100% of the PS1 and PS2 game emulation
to 85 Percent, Later Games will start to suffer. because of this.

In MS corner, the nickel and diming will not save them from the envitible, Most 360's have
faulty tech, broken down to shreds. Another BILLION Dollars go down the drain, and they cant
sell a dime in Japan. (same with the PS3 but PS3 is much stronger and holds well)

Ninty seems that they are the kings of the world, with DSlite and Wii. Hey, we can sell
Porno and call it a school simlatior, Oh wait we cant sell Manhunt, much much too violient for us...

Keep giving a that donkey a wolfs clothes, but hes still a donkey. A pimped out Donkey
but a Donkey he still is.

Im not in the business of telling you what to buy or what have you.

But you buy a $600 dollar phone which is not even have the best phone connection line,
yet the PS3 can stream videos from your PC, to your PSP, which now will stream to another
TV anywhere in the world and its not selling...yet your buying a Wii with a stick that breaks off,
has several games that were good but the only thing people want is a Sports compluation disc
and dont get me started with how BACKWARD the tech is...we are back to MODIFIED CD'S NOW? You pretty much telling me $250 for a modified CD games? Its like everything Sony has done has gone for nothing!

But this is the mainstream media for you. Saying Ninty won after Sony pretty much showed the whole kit, new games, new IP's, Net games you actually want to play, a better online exprance...

But all i heard was the same mainstream media pedarast's doing the dark deed on Doki Doki's heroine.

I might not like Segabastard, I strongly dissagree with his dissing of Sony, but what he has been saying about the Wii is gospel...

"Brain Age has sold approximately 1.7 million copies in the US. About 8 million worldwide (the lion's share in Japan). Its sequel has sold about 1 million in the US. Certainly Gears of War, which has sold 2.7 million in the US alone, isn't a "worldwide phenomenon" because people recognize it's not popular in Japan. This is lost on snerds.

Brain Age paints a bigger picture: people aren't buying the simple games line as much as Nintendo makes it seem. Sure, their portables will always sell (to kids and morons, of which there are many) and the Wii is off to a great start. But look at the top sellers on the DS in America, and then reorganize the chart to show Japan's top sellers. The top ten American DS list has two "simple" games (both Brain Age) and one Nintendogs (which is a pack-in, so its sales aren't of fair comparison to those which must be purchased). The top 20 has four (and that's counting Tetris as a "simple game"). If these "simple games" are so important, why are they selling less than just regular old Nintendo games?

The story is truly different in Japan, where the top titles are riddled with the word "Training" (four of the top ten have this word in the title). Simple games designed to make people feel artificially smarter have truly taken hold in Japan. Such is not true in the US. Though this information is oddly glossed over.

THE WII IS THE FUTURE, THIRD PARTIES ARE SCRAMBLING TO PLAY CATCH-UP

Truth: the only company to make money on a Nintendo console is Nintendo.

The 360 has an unforeseen strength in its software-attachment figures. People who purchase the machine tend to buy a lot of games. This is seen in its million sold chart. There are 17 games sold worldwide for a total of 1 million or more on the 360; on this list, MS has published 3 of those 17.

Compare that with Nintendo's numbers. Of its 7 games to reach that milestone, 5 were published by Nintendo. And one of those came with the console, and the other came with a controller. And incidentally, Nintendo has published 18 of the top 20 selling DS games.

I won't compare total numbers, since the 360 has sold a lot more consoles than the Wii. But the ratio says everything: Nintendo makes the money on the Wii. Remember, it's basically a GameCube with a dumb controller... how much do you think they make per console?"

He continues:

"The logic plays out like this: if a company can only expect their Wii effort, on average, to sell X amount, and that amount is substantially less than on the 360, how much money could they afford to put into that game?

Since I know anyone who loves Nintendo and actually reads this site would say: "yeah but the budgets can be smaller since the Wii is so easy to program for! And the games are supposed to be simple!" And my response: how bright a future does that seem? That because of its less friendly sales environment, third parties will be shoehorned into farting out low-budget "simple" titles and save its big-budget, innovative blockbusters for the more friendly harbors of the 360/PS3?"

He Finshes with this:

"THE WII'S GAMES ARE AWESOME AND THEY'RE BRINGIN FUN BACK

A quick look at Metacritic gives some revealing insight for how the Wii stacks up to the 360 or even the PS3 in terms of quantified quality:

1: Of the three new consoles, the Wii's games score the worst at practically every position. Its top ten includes a game with a score of 76. The PS3's tenth is an 82 and MS' is an 89. The 20th position on the Wii is a poorly 72; on PS3 it's a 78 and an 85 on 360. The 50th spot on the Wii is occupied by a 57-scored game. On the 360, spot 50 is an 80-scored Madden '07 (which received an 81 and the 5th spot on the Wii chart).

2: Most every game that sees a multi-platform release sees its lowest-scoring iteration on the Wii. The following list is important:

Splinter Cell 4
Marvel Ultimate Alliance
Call of Duty 3
Mortal Kombat Armageddon
Tiger Woods 07
Prince of Persia 3
NFS: Carbon
Blazing Angels
Pirates of the Caribbean
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
Far Cry

The above list is populated by Wii games that all scored worst of any version across all available platforms. To restate: the Wii version is the worst possible version of the above games you can buy. And that doesn't take into account games like Resident Evil 4, which scores lowest of the console versions, or Spider-Man 3 which was only "worsted" by the PS2 version. AND it doesn't include crap like Ice Age 2 which was outdone by every other console, but nobody would ever care about.

Now, anyone who has paid attention to the schlong-throating Nintendo's received from the press might ask: where is the love coming from? Where are these games? Why is it that the Wii gets the worst versions of every game, and its high-scoring games score less than the competition's? And why do we still have to hear about how "fun" the machine is? Could it be that it's an empty bubble that will likely burst in the next year?"

The problem with the bubble, that if it does burst- it will take most of the business with it.

Right now, due to Sony's slow start, 360's major hardware problems, and Wii getting the bad end
of the ports of the major games, (which are all built on 360's archutecture, and since UT3 is now being built for Ps3's Cell Archutecture) its only the DS, and PSP that has been the stable force in the Video Game industry. Better yet, its the only the PSP keeping any sembance of what made gaming great in the first place.

And yet, the PSP struggles.

The DS, and most recently the amazon.co.jp preorders for Doki Doki Majo Shinpan proved to me one thing...

The perverts wernt us in the ghetto's of Shibua and Harlem playing GTA San Andreas/Tomb Raider/Madden...it was the those with the posh jobs as Akubara/Madisen Advenue- showing a child how to find a witch...

Forget brain training how about some eroge bating.

The worst thing about this? Another game came out...It was called Front Mission First...
A redone Front Mission, one of the best JRPG's ever created. It didnt sell.

It means that it is over.

They dont speak for us, and our magic, our wishes and dreams anymore.

They speak for the indpendent female, who im not against
They speak for the old who have been disprespected by our parents
They speak for the kids because the animation industry doesnt speak for them...

But us? The ones who started this? Your better off dead, or better yet, stuck in a job to bring birth those kids who would buy a game such as...WiiFit...

If it this is truly the end of Sonys reign, then it isnt a great loss... I get the future of movie formats, Still Play PS1 and PS2 games, have some great PS3 games, still have a vibrant community, Have a PSP that can do it all, a PSP2 that will rock the world...

But there will be a huge hole in a industry that now says were too good for you.

UFC did one thing right out of all of the fight games troubles...They didnt diss us.
Sony hasnt lied. But the Mainstream Media doesnt care.

In the end, i would be very content with a losing PS3 and ending my Video Game journey...wishing of what could have been...

Than to just give up and deal with the old hag full of botox and collagen...or a new money grabbing bitch...

I leave you with two videos:

This fit my mood well...

This only fits the mood of the rich sick men in D.C., Hollywood, Madason Ave...and there even sicker sons.
