You know, it is kind of ironic how the best portrayals of religion in film are in those films that are not, at least on the surface, about religion or a religious story.

Miyazaki and Takahata are complete masters of their crafts and have yet to have a true equal. Only Pixar has come close. Disney was on the right track but lost it towards the end of the 1990's.
