Jan 20thFRANCESCA BÆRALD - Freelance Illustrator : I was born in Modena (Italy) on the Spring of 1982. I've spent my first 20 years studying piano,guitar and violin, playing in a few metal bands and recording also a cd. My passion for drawing never faded away and after some experiences as founder of an artistic handicraft business, I decided to channel my passion for RPG, videogames, fantasy and sci-fi starting to study Illustration at Scuola Internazionale Comics in Reggio Emilia. At the present time between a school project and another I cooperate with some RPG forum and groups to realize character designs and illustrations. I worked as a traditional colorist for the italian comics 'Agenzia Incantesimi Reloaded'. I've recently done the book cover and some paintings for the italian fantasy/sci-fi book 'Tales from Helleborya'. I've also realized illustrations for the RPGs 'Shah Mat' and 'Forest Keeper'.
Feb 4thAbout the Artist Born in Cavite yet a pure Bulakenyo, Renz Marrione Bautsita is a personification of youth with a heart for art. Bautista is a Fine Arts major in Advertising student of Bulacan State University who has exemplified his skills in different fields. He has topped visual arts competitions like the 4th Cocolife Colors of Life Student Visual Arts Competition – Runner up (College category), 2011 National Student Art Competition (Art Petron) – Grand Prize (T-shirt design) and Semifinalist (Painting category), 43rd Shell National Students Art Competition (NSAC) – 5th honorable mention, 2010 Metrobank Art Design Excellence (MADE) – Semifinalist, and, a grandprize winner in the 1st Bulacan State University Painting Contest. Aside from his artistic excellence, Batista has contributed in BulSU’s official student publicaton, Pacesetter, as a member for 3 years and the Art Director for his last year. He has won Regional and Luzonwide press competitions in editorial cartooning and comic strip drawing.

Aug 22nd, 2011My name is Berthjan Achterop, a passionate designer from Groningen, a city up north in the Netherlands. Ever since i was young I was interested in art/designs. It started out drawing comics and later on, because of my interest for art/design I studied Communication and Multimedia Design in Leeuwarden which I passed in 2007. After that I got a job as a corporate webdesigner in Groningen. I worked at a big internetagency named TFE. After almost 4 years of working for TFE, I decided to quit my job and start for myself . With 4 years of agency experience and my passion for graphic design , me and two others (Thijs de Vos and Anthonie Smith) started an agency for online marketing and creation.This agency is called Sterkhouders. At Sterkhouders I am responsible for all the design work. Besides the designs i create for customers i enjoy spending time on personal work to keep evolving my skills. I do this within artgroups like evoke and intrinsic nature.

Jun 10th, 2011Lowbrow is a widespread populist art movement with origins in the underground comix world, punk music, hot-rod street culture, and other subcultures. Lowbrow art often has a sense of humor - sometimes the humor is gleeful, sometimes impish, and sometimes it is a sarcastic comment. The single most common tactic that Lowbrow artists employ is to poke fun at convention. They know the "rules" of art, and consciously choose not to abide by them. If the test of time for legitimacy (as an artistic movement) means that Lowbrow speaks/spoke, in visual terms, to the millions of us who share a common cultural, symbolic language - albeit a "lower" or "middle" class, media-driven language - then, yes, Lowbrow is here to stay. Anthropologists will probably study Lowbrow in the future, to attempt to figure out late 20th and early 21st century U.S. societal influences.
