It is nice to have a break from watercolour. This is basically complete, however I have spotted a couple of ginger fur details that I could add. What I love about oil paint is its great versatility. I utilized a layering method, with an acrylic under layer (in black and white). I painted the subject completely from life, and it is virtually the same size as the plant. Amazingly, the orchid is still in flower; and has been since I acquired it from the London RHS orchid show in March. Approximately 60cm x 33cm. This piece took me a long time...It is a relief to have finally finished it. Dedicated to: http://shadow-and-flame-86.deviantart.com/ This picture is based on one of her beautiful photographs. The tiger is my favourite animal. I felt particularly inspired to paint this piece after watching a repeat of 'Two Brothers,' fairly recently. I love this plant, and have painted it's flowers from life in Sennelier watercolour on black paper. It did not take me too long, unlike the barn owl. My second attempt with the Faber -Castell pencils that my Dad gave me for Christmas. The paper is Bristol Canson, which still chaffed very slightly in areas, but is a great improvement on the printer quality type that I used before for my Caracal. -Utilization of my own reference photograph.
