- Fragile
For the August MY-FX monthly challenge "Fragile Things".
Here's a link to an animated gif of a few progress shots.
This is probably some of my most detailed skin ever. I came across a hint from miss Marta Dahling in a back issue of ImagineFX that helped me out there.
The bubble was rough. I had to look up a lot of images before I could get the reflections right.

- Fish Kiss
This was sort of me just playing around and getting back into painting after my 2 1/2 weeks of not doing much art. It's not a perfect painting, and there's a lot more that I can do to it, but I think it's done for now.
References were used for the girl's face and the fish. The cracked oils texture was an idea I actually picked up from the official Corel Painter Magazine. It was a stock photo of dry, cracked ground. ^_^ I think it added just enough texture.

Molchansky it's really a great one

- Irony
So one day I was out driving and I saw a hippy girl outside of the Healing Arts Center (Yoga, Vegan cooking classes, etc.) smoking and gabbing on a cell phone.
I found this funny.
Reference photo of a girl sitting on the sidewalk from sxc.hu. This was an excuse to get this image out of my head and play around with Painter's charcoal brushes. I'm quite pleased with this.
Spent about 3 hours on this? Yeah, that sounds about right.
Painter IX, as always.

Tricks You realise theres the small reply link next to someones nick that opens up a small reply box like this so you can directly reply to someone like i am doing now :P

I would add some cheeky pixies to the image, hiding around the funky tree as if playing a game :) -
Malla Oh wow. Now I feel dumb. XD You'd think I'd know better by now to look for reply buttons., especially since it's everyone's pet peeve on DA.

Pixies or nymphs would be good. I'll play around with it more later.

- Jigsaw
Fan art sketch of the main character from the SAW horror films. Done from reference with a promotional poster.

- Amanda
Also a character from the SAW films. This took about 30 minutes, no references. I was experimenting with marker effects.

- Lily and Monty
Portraits of Harry Potter RPG characters. The redhead is my character, and the other girl is a friend's character. Snap-shot composition. I cut off Monty's face to make things more visually interesting.
Character of Lily Evans (c) JK Rowling. Monty is an original character (c) Miss Tova.

- Ralph Fiennes as Saetan SaDiablo
Character Portrait of Saetan SaDiablo from Anne Bishop's Black Jewels Trilogy. I used a picture of Ralph Fiennes for reference. Done in greyscale with color effects added later.
-
leiko this is a really good portrait. very realistic, soft looking hair, mesmorizing golden eyes, and positioning of mouth which just seems to hint teeth. it's like seeing a vampire without anything screaming vampire.

Malla Thank you! I'm glad it rides the border between pleasant portrait and creepy figure. That was sort of what I was going for.

- Velma Kelly
I always forget just how much I love the movie Chicago, and how freaking GORGEOUS Catherine Zeta-Jones is in it. I found myself a reference shot from the film and painted this little quicky.

- The Wakening
A very literal interpretation of the theme "the wakening". This was a quick-and-dirty piece, mostly pencils and airbrushes in Painter IX with the color added fast on separate layers.

- Necessary Repairs
Here we have the lovely Jewel Staite in her role as Kaylee on Joss Whedon's genius show Firefly. You can find the original reference shot here.
I wanted to up the tension considerably from the original shot. Different colors, much darker and more dramatic. I think it turned out pretty well. I'm especially proud of her eye, and the fact that I managed to paint in (most) of those wires and cables and metal bits.

- Anne of the Sea
This is a much older piece featuring the infamous female pirate Anne Bonny. I play her in a RPG and I felt like drawing up a portrait. I should redo it now that I've gotten better at lighting, anatomy, hair, etc. This is one my father made a print of to frame and hang in my parent's house. ^_^

- The Great Illusion
Yet another IFX challenge piece, for the monthly theme "The Great Illusion." Most of the entries went with stage magic/magicians, but I figured what illusion could be more powerful than a child's imagination? There's a lot of this that I'm not happy with and would like to finish up someday, but for now it's done.

- Ballerina Kitten
For the ImagineFX challenge "Surreal." I think a dancing Bast fit the bill nicely. :) Pose taken from sketches of my sister's dance competition choreography, some reference shots for the lighting.

I really like the pose and how you painted the skin and the dress, the transparencies in the dress are fantastic! The cat's head is great and I adore the way you made the transition of the body and hair with the cat's head :D
7Shadows interesting concept arts! thanks for sharing them here and welcome to the community!

- Lost Souls
This was for a challenge topic at ImagineFX.com. I was going to add a lot more screaming faces and desperately clinging/grasping hands...but I just kept screwing it up. So I've decided to just leave it, since (at least I think) it's a pretty impressive images as it is. :)
-
armilar I also think the image is pretty impressive like this.

The faces are very well done and the work with colours in this picture is gorgeous!
I only think the sea should be a bit more rendered to make it looks more like a sea. -
Malla I keep meaning to retouch this one. Natascha Roeoesli did a really great paintover of it that just made the painting. I'm still really pleased with this, though.

- If Dreams Lived in Fish Tanks
Winner of the MYFX Challenge #24 over at ImagineFX.com. View the other fantastic entries over here.
Mermaids always want to be human girls, and little human girls dream of being mermaids. Wouldn't it be grand if they could switch places for a day? I always thought so. And as a child I was also terrified that adults would catch on that magic was real and put all of the enchanted creatures into zoos...

armilar This picture is brilliant. First the concept is very good and original. Then, the compostion of this picture is fantastic, I like a lot the angle of this picture, it's also very original like the concept. then the colors are great, I specially like that the girl is wearing a pink shirt that contrasts with the green tones of the picture.
Jun 25th, 2007 -
Malla The pink shirt was interesting. I had to keep it in cool tones to match up with the other colors.

armilar This picture is soo beautifull! I really like your interpretation os fragile! It's so original! And I really like how you painted this. Beautifull colours, I like the childish and girly mood of the picture and the way you used saturated colors.
Sep 13th, 2007the buble is fantastic and I congratulate you for trying something so difficult and painting a bubble like that (I find that king of element quite difficult to paint because it reflects so much colors). Maybe someday I'll see you writing a buble tutorial in iFX :D
Malla Thank you! That bubble was difficult. It had to be semi-transparent, but they're so reflective. In the end it worked out just fine, if a little too opaque. :)
