This is the first of two. I am also in the process of illustrating covers for two of Mr. Galford's book. This is a design for Feanne, a Druid female red-tailed fox anthromorph. This design will be used at an anthro convention where Jim will display his new books. While there, she has a chance to catch up with Räivä, a childhood friend she has not seen for many years. Just as new feelings between the two women begin to bloom, an accident with her hunting party leaves Räivä lost somewhere in the blizzard. Käde knows she has little time to find Räivä, but it will take more than just runecraft to rescue her, and Käde fears she doesn't have the strength. Artist's Note: In this illustration, Räivä and Kade walk across the frozen tundra from their small village rekindling a bond which began when they were younger. Note the leather pouch on Kade's belt. It is filled with runes made from bone because Kade is a runic spellcaster. The great thing about artists is that our styles and strengths are so diverse. This diversity allows us to play off of one another's artistic strengths and create more powerful pieces. Hopefully my Collaborators series will showcase how we can use diversity to achieve unity. Hot and intense one moment then bitter and cold the next. A gamble of the heart. Infatuation, on the other hand, is far more forgiving, but it too can hurt. Especially when it is confused as love. Such was the case of Felicia Hardy aka Black Cat who wanted to be with Spiderman and for a time got her wish. But the romance was short lived because Felicia could not love Peter Parker the man, she was too infatuated with Spiderman. Black Cat is a fine looking woman and since I had to try out the Wacom Graphire tablet I won in *drakhenliche's contest I figured I'd create this piece. A few pieces of symbolism are strewn about in it for good measure. Black Cat and Spiderman are copyright Marvel Comics Entertainment Illustration copyright myself, of course. Height: 5 in. Weight: 1 lbs. Birthplace: Sorche' Lineage: Common Ivory Background: The birth of Acasca occured during The Dark Inception, a period of war between the fairy like races of Sorche, Ivory and Scuro. She was the daughter of two lovers, one Scuro and the other Ivory, who hid their affections from each of their races. In an attempt to quell the era spanning feud between the two races, The leader of the Ivories (Pashe) and his lover (Caupis) of the Scuro, announced the birth of their child. A birth which was supposed to usher in a new era of peace and unity between the races by showing that the two races could live in harmony. Peace was eventually attained, however, it was merely a momentary reprieve. Acasca's story unfolds within the world of Sorche. In this scene, Magnus is facing off against an old world vampire called a Strigoi. Artist's Note: In this illustration, Magnus clad in his blood red tunic and wielding his ethereal short sword draws first blood from the Strigoi with a clean cut across the chest. The Strigoi manages to cleave a good portion of Magnus' tunic, but nothing more. The stage has been set as the two battle in the courtyard of a crumbling castle in the moonlit night. Once again I've also used an semi-impressionist approach to create the sense of realism in this piece. "Immortal Conquest" is Kevin's second novel of the series, the first novel cover 'Immortal Journey" can be found here on Shadowness as well. Sun, 04 Dec 2011 04:13:55 -0500
